Three O'Hara Wrestlers Survive First Round in State and Two Win Wrestlebacks

Although Archbishop O'Hara High School had ten wrestlers qualify from District to compete in the Missouri Class 1 State competition, three made it beyond the first round and two stayed in competition by way of wrestlebacks.

Of the fifty schools that scored first round points, O'Hara had enough to tie Holden and South Harrison for 11th place.

Maverick Griffin (152 lb) won with a pin in 27 seconds, Robert Martin (220 lb) won with a pin with nine seconds remaining in the first period, and Stephen Conway (182 lb) moved on due to an injury default.

Two Celtics went the distance but lost their decisions: Eero Johnson (285 lb) 6-4 and Gerard Harker (145 lb) 7-2.  Two wrestlers lost on technical falls: Andres Garcia (106 lb) 17-2 and Sylvester Newman (138 lb) 16-0.

Only three from O'Hara were pinned in their first round matches: Spencer Mathews (160 lb) in 5:03, Nihkil Fenani (113 lb) in 1:36, and Ethan Ambrose (126 lb) in 0:33.

Eero Johnson won his wrestleback with a pin and Spencer Mathews took a "sudden victory" in his wrestleback to continue in competition.
