O'Hara 36 Richmond 42 to Open the Celtic's Football Season

Brock Hughes scored four touchdowns along with a two-point conversion, but it wasn’t enough as the Archbishop O’Hara High School football team lost to the Richmond Spartans 42-36 on August 30.

O’Hara’s remaining points were on a touchdown pass from Michael Briggs to Zack Drake and Drake’s four extra points. Drake also attempted a long field goal which went left of the goal posts.

At the start of the game, both teams punted on their first possessions. Then the Celtics got their first touchdown on an eighty yard pass play from Michael Briggs to Zack Drake.

The Spartans answered with a three yard run by Tommy Wedgeworth and an extra point by Shane Battagler.

Still in the first quarter, Brock Hughes broke loose for a 57 yard TD run.

Richmond pulled ahead for the first time in the second quarter with a three yard TD run by Brock Strokes and a two point conversion on a pass from Quinton Maxwell to Nathan Lundholm.

Brock Hughes put O’Hara back in the lead with an eight yard run and then increased the lead with a three yard TD making the score 28-15 at the time.

With just over a minute of playing time in the first half, quarterback Tommy Wedgeworth scored on 23 yard keeper.
Before the halftime festivities and with only 23 seconds on the clock, Brock Hughes ran for a 50 yard touchdown and the Celtics led 36-22.

The Celtics failed to score in the second half while the Spartans picked away at the tiring O’Hara defense.

The only touchdown in the third quarter was a 7 yard run by Brock Strokes.

In the final quarter, the Spartans got touchdowns on a 10 yard run by Brock Strokes to tie the game at 36-36, and an 11 yard run by Quinton Maxwell to break the tie with less than two minutes left in the contest.

Celtics Do Well in 2013 Football Jamboree

O’HARA IS UNBEATEN AT FOOTBALL JAMBOREE

On August 23rd the Archbishop O’Hara High School Celtic football team played in the Jamboree held on the Ruskin football field.
In the three-way competition, O’Hara won their game with Pleasant Hill 24-18, tied with University Academy 6-6, and shutout Ruskin 6-0,

Against Pleasant Hill, on offense the Celtics scored a touchdown on their 5th play on a 6 yard run by quarterback Mike Briggs. Brock Hughes gave the Celtics their second score on a 1 yard run. Mike Briggs passed to Gerard Harker for their next six points on a forty yarder. On the final play of the 12 allotted to each team, Zach Drake caught a touchdown pass from Mike Briggs.
On defense, the Celtics gave up a 22 yard TD pass on the 4th play, another one on a 12 yard run on the 6th play, and finally a 30 yard passing play on the Roosters’ 12th play. However Larry Bosworth halted one of the drives with an interception.

With University Academy, Michael Rowe scored for O’Hara on their 5th play from scrimmage on an 18 yard run, and the Celtics nearly scored again when they were stopped on the one yard line as time ran out. University Academy got their six pointer on their 4th play. Later Gabe Kimbrough caused a fumble and Maverick Griffin recovered for O’Hara to stop a drive on the 26 yard line.

In the Ruskin game, the only touchdown came on the very first play. Mike Briggs passed to Zach Drake who went the distance. Penalties brought back two touchdown attempts by the Celtics, one was on a beautiful diving catch in the end zone by Zach Drake, and the other an 11 yard run by Brock Hughes.
Ruskin did not find its way into the end zone. The O’Hara team registered sacks by Jayden Hudson and by Maverick Griffin. Ife Siffre also caused a fumble in the Ruskin backfield.
