Celtics Win a One-Hitter in Baseball

On April 27, the Archbishop O'Hara High School baseball team won 7-0 in a non-Conference game with Benton High School bringing their record to 11-4. _____ Cullen Rowland pitched hitless ball until allowing a two-out double in the last inning. _____ O'Hara scored three runs in the third inning and tagged on four more in the sixth. _____ Two walks to start the third inning were followed by a double by Cullen Rowland and a single by Aaron Stubblefield to account for the first two tallies of the game. Another run came across the plate on a misplayed pickoff attempt at second base. _____ Travis Peter and Jake Slocum opened the sixth inning with consecutive singles. _____ Following a sacrifice bunt by Logan Halil and a fielder's choice, Ben Janet reached first base on an error and two runs scored. _____ Hits by Aaron Mitchel and Cullen Rowland produced the final two O'Hara runs. _____ Rowland struck out four batters, walked none, and allowed only two base runners, one of which reached first on an error.

ANOTHER SOCCER SHUTOUT FOR CELTICS

Once again, Derrianna White was credited with a soccer shutout as the O'Hara Lady Celtics won 8-0 with a game with the Clinton Cardinals on April 26. _____ Half of O'Hara's goals were by Taylor Eason. _____ Single shots by Katie Brage, Sydney White, Lindasy Beachner, and Andi Davis accounted for the rest of the scoring.

Saint Elizabeth Outpoints Nativity and Saint Regis in Math Contest at O'Hara

Seven elementary schools competed in the annual Archbishop O'Hara High School Math Contest on April 23rd with Saint Elizabeth scoring 567 points to 553 for Nativity and 490 for Saint Regis. _____ The team scores for the schools were based on the totals of the top two students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. _____ In individual awards, the top 8th graders were Ben Kirse from Saint Regis and Heather Cigas from Saint Elizabeth who tied with scores of 108 apiece. _____ Saint Peter's Liam Bryson was the top 7th grade scholar with a 109 score and the top 6th grader with 110 points was Maggie Mannebach. _____ In addition to the first place winners, ribbons were awarded to the next four in each grade with seven 6th and 7th graders from Saint Peter's leading the list. _____ They were Daniel Stanley, John Leisman, Conor Law, Samantha Smith, Patrick Bauman, Maggie Hutchison, and Nick Hirner. _____ Brett Kies from Saint Regis and Nick McCracken from Nativity also won ribbons for being in the top five in their classes.

O'HARA BASEBALL TEAM TAKES SECOND PLACE IN TOURNAMENT POOL PLAY

The final standings in the MID SEASON CLASSIC 2010 EASTERN JACKSON COUNTY VARSITY BASEBALL TOURNAMENT has the O'Hara Celtics in second place in Pool A competition with Lee's Summit taking first. ______ Lee's Summit was undefeated in four games and the Celtics went 3-1. _____ Raytown South, William Chrisman, and Fort Osage had identical 1-3 records to tie for third. _____ Lee's Summit West and Truman tied for first in Pool B with 3-1 records. _____ In third place was Lee's Summit North at 2-2, and tying for fourth were Raytown and Lee's Summit Community Christian School, both with 1-3 records. _____ Extreme rain prevented playoffs this year.

St Pius Falls to O'Hara Twice by One Point

On April 21st, the Saint Pius Warriors came up short by one point in golf and in soccer to the O'Hara Celtics. _____ The 162-163 golf score had a medalist for both teams, Jack Caywood for the Celtics and Joe Tyner for the Warriors, both carding 38 on a par 36 course at Hodge Park. ____ On the same day, the O'Hara soccer team benefitted from goals by Taylor Eason and Andi Davis for a 2-1 win.

DERRIANNA WHITE GETS A SHUTOUT FOR O'HARA SOCCER

Christ Prep fell to the O'Hara soccer team 4-0 as Derriana White registered another shutout. _____ Sydney White scored a goal for the Celtics and Taylor Eason accounted for the other three.

Baseball Celtics Go 3-1 in Tournament

In the EAST JACKSON COUNTY MIDSEASON CLASSIC, the O'Hara baseball team defeated Raytown South by scores of 10-3 and 13-2, and beat Fort Osage in a close 7-5 game. _____ In O'Hara's second game against Raytown South, Travis Peter hit a grand slam home run. _____ The Celtics' loss was to Lee's Summit 3-0.

SOME O'HARA TRACK RESULTS

O'Hara's Jasper Greeson took first place in the 200 meter race at Ray-Pec on April 16th. _____ He was also on the winning 4x100 relay team with Brett Coatney, Raphael Spencer, and Jorge Belcher. _____ Also Sydnee Reese and Skyler Young assisted the girls squad in finishing ahead of Ray-Pec and Blue Springs. _____ _____ At the Smith-Cotton Invitational on April 2th the Lady Celtics came in first and the boys' team finished fourth. _____ Individual champions included Raphael Spencer, Jasper Greeson, Sydnee Reese, and Skyler Young. _____Good performances were also accomplished by Brett Coatney, Arniecea Johnson, Claire Becker, Makenzie Shelton, Dakota Waggerman, Paige Bush, and Marlynn Bartlet.

O'Hara Takes Third Place in District Knowledge Bowl

O'Hara's Mike Berney was named to the ALL DISTRICT ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAM along with Jake Billingsy and Jason Gober from Holden, Dustin Wallace from Knob Noster, Glenn Wyman from Oak Grove, and Jacob Luehrman from Odessa. _____Five students made up the O'Hara Academic Knowledge Bowl team for Class 3 DISTRICT 14 competition on Saturday, April 17th. _____ Mike Berney was the lone senior and the team captain, and Andy Meyer and Josh Bonello were the two juniors on the team. _____ Finally, two talented sophomores completed the team: Kierra Jackson and Jake Fortin. _____ O'Hara had won the West Central Conference in March and took Second Place last year in District, but this this year had to settle for Third in District. _____ Holden was the overall winner with a 5-0 showing and repeated as the District Champs beating Knob Noster 240-180. _____Knob Noster came in Second with a 3-2 record. _____ O'Hara was next at 2-2. _____ The competition began in pool play in the afternoon with three rounds involving the six participating schools. _____ From the afternoon competition, only Holden survived undefeated and Pleasant Hill, the host team, dropped all three of their contests. _____ O'Hara and Knob Noster had identical 2-1 records as did Odessa and Oak Grove at 1-2 (Odessa went on the semifinals in the evening having the better point spread). _____ In O'Hara's semifinal game with Knob Noster, the Celtics lost 180-150. _____ The day began very well for O'Hara as they started off with a 120-50 win against Pleasant Hill. _____ However they then lost to Odessa 160-100 and came back with a close 150-130 decision defeating Oak Grove.

CENTER IS SHUT OUT BY LADY CELTICS

The O'Hara soccer team won another shutout as Center fell 7-0. _____ Taylor Eason, Andi Davis, and Sydney White scored two goals apiece for six of the Celtics' points. _____ Maddie Champion also scored for O'Hara.

Two Lady Celtics Sign Letter of Intent to Rockhurst

Alex Smith and Ashley Clark, in a ceremony on April 14th, signed letters of intent for Rockhurst Univesrity. _____ Both were starters on the Archbishop O'Hara High School Celtics basketball team that won Third Place in State in 2010. _____

CELTICS SHUTOUT WILDCATS

The mercy rule kept the baseball game between the O'Hara Celtics and the Harrisonville Wildcats from going beyond five innings in a 13-0 game played on April 13th. _____ A six run first inning gave Aaron Stubblefield more than a sufficient cushion as he went on to strike out six batters and gave up only one single in the third inning. _____ Eleven batters came to the plate in the first inning and with the help of three hits, four walks, three passed balls, two wild pitches, and two errors, the game was decided rather early. _____ Stubblefield helped his own cause contributing three hits, one of which was a triple, and four RBI's. _____ Aaron Mitchell also had four RBI's on a single and a double. _____ The Celtics added four runs in the third inning when nine players batted around and three more runs in the fourth.

Ranking of O'Hara Baseball Team

The ranking of Missouri High School baseball teams that came out on April 11th had the O'Hara Celtics in 13th place. _____ The only Kansas City area baseball team having a higher rank was Rockhurst at 6th. _____ Nearby Harrisonville was ranked 23rd and Kearney at 25th. _____ Fort Zumwalt South had the honor of topping the list.

ANOTHER SOCCER WIN FOR THE CELTICS

On April 12th, the O'Hara soccer team won a 7-2 game with Sacred Heart of Sedalia. _____ Taylor Eason scored four of the Celtics' goals. _____ Katie Brage, Lindsay Beachner, and Andi Davis added individual goals to the total.

O'Hara Invited to Go National

The Archbishop O'Hara High School Academic Knowledge Bowl team received an invitation to go National by the NATIONAL ACADEMIC ASSOCIATION. _____ In a letter dated April 9, 2010, Brother Richard Geimer, Knowledge Bowl Coach, received the following: "Congratulations to Archbishop O'Hara High School for taking the West Central Conference Academic Knowledge Bowl varsity championship as well as second place in the junior varsity division. These accomplishments qualify your teams for participation in the 28th annual National Academic Championship...You may choose to compete at one of these three venues: New Orleans on May 29-31 OR Washington, D. C. June 4-6 OR Chicago June 12-14...For the first time we are offering both varsity and junior varsity divisions at all three venues." _____ The letter came from Chip Beall, Executive Director of the National Academic Association. _____ Although this is just an invitation, Brother Richard will wait until the results of the April 17th MISSOURI DISTRICT are in before addressing the possibility of National competition. _____ O'Hara participated in District competition for the first time a year ago taking Second Place.

HOW O'HARA BASKETBALL PLAYERS EXCELLED IN MO-KAN GAME

Scoring 90 points was not quite enough for the Missouri team to win the All-Star Challenge MO-KAN game on April 10th as the Kansas Stars won by three. _____ Except for the second quarter when the Kansas Stars outdid their opponents 22-19, the two squads matched points quarter by quarter. _____ Of the four Missouri players that reached double figures, Alex Smith from Archbishop O'Hara High School scored 11 points. _____ She was joined by Tanchelle Hollingsworth from Raytown South who had 20, Kassidy Ritchel from Truman with 13, and C. L. Wesemann from Pleasant Hill with 11. _____ Two of Smith's baskets were three-point shots. _____ These, shot in succession, came at an opportune time when the Missouri All-Stars were down by 57-51 in the third quarter thus tying up the score at 57-57_____ O'Hara's Hailey Houser, a member of the 4-A Missouri All-State First Team, had 7 points in the contest. _____ In the third quarter, it was one of her baskets that gave the Missouri team their only lead within the third quarter at 62-61. _____ In the fourth quarter, Alex Smith came through with a layup that provided the Missouri players with their only lead in that quarter 85-84 with two and a half minutes left in the game.

Basketball O'Hara All-Stater Hailey Houser

With a scoring average of 11.3 points per game and an 8.0 average in rebounds, #12 Hailey Houser of Archbishop O'Hara High School was named to the Missouri All State First Team in 4-A girls basketball. The 6'2" forward has signed a letter of intent to attend UMKC next year. The O'Hara Lady Celtics posted a 25-7 record and ended their season with a victory for Third Place in the State.

EASY SHUTOUT SOCCER WIN FOR LADY CELTICS

Taylor Eason and Andi Davis each scored three goals in Archbishop O'Hara High School's 10-0 victory over the Clinton Cardinals in a West Central Conference game on April 6th. _____ Goalkeeper Derrianna White wasn't kept too busy in recording the shutout. _____ Goals were also scored by Angela Fenani, Katie Brage, Lindsay Beachner, and Lindsey Hanaway. _____ Looking ahead, between May 14th and 21st, O'Hara will compete in the Class 2 District 6 games at Pembroke Hill. _____ Other schools in the District in addition to O'Hara and Pembroke Hill include Hickman Mills, Notre Dame de Sion, Center, Oak Grove, and Grain Valley.

O'Hara Golf Win Over Odessa & Saint Mary's

Sophomore Jeremy Schaefer shot a 44 on a par 36 Creekmoor Golf Course and was the medalist as the Archbishop O'Hara golf team won a tri-meet. ______ O'Hara had the low score of 185 bettering Odessa 202 and Saint Mary's 219.

O'HARA ALUMNUS MAX STORMS WINS 3000 METER RUN AT MU

On April 3rd, at the Tom Botts Invitational, the final regular season home meet at the University of Missouri, freshman Max Storms, an Archbishop O'Hara High School alumnus, won the men's 3,000 meter race with 8:50.51 for his time _____ Teams competing were from Indiana State, Drake, Northern Illinois, and Central Missouri.

Two From O'Hara to Play in MO-KAN ALL STAR FOOTBALL GAME

Representing the O'Hara High School football team, Third in State in in 2009, two Celtics were selected for the June 17th MO-KAN ALL STAR Game to be played at 7 PM at Shawnee Mission North. _____ On the offensive squad, lineman Ted Dujakovich and wide receiver Aaron Stubblefield will play for Missouri.
