O'Hara and Center Split in Basketball

On February 15th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School basketball teams hosted Center, and the Lady Celtics won a close 54-51 game but the boys' contest was a decisive 82-58 win for the visiting Yellowjackets.

The results of the two games had minimal effects on the West Central Conference standings inasmuch as the O'Hara girls and the Center boys had already won their Championships with their pevious games.

For six young ladies and one gentleman, it was "senior night."  Madison Williams, Cyndee Reese, Lindsay Beachner, Maddie Champion, Madison Clark, Alexa Williams, and Kyle Baker played in their last home game for the Celtics.

In the girls' game, Center moved out in front 14-5 in the first quarter and were up 33-22 at halftime.  Trailing all through the third quarter, the Celtics finally managed to tie the score at 42-42 to end the third period on a basket by Alexa Williams.

The O'Hara team took the lead for the first time at the start of the fourth quarter and led 50-43 halfway through the period.  The Yellowjackets rallied to take a one point lead at 51-50 when Cyndee Reese scored the go-ahead basket and Alexa Williams tagged on two free throws.

The top O'Hara scorers in the game were Cydnee Reese with 17, Amanda Hull with 11, Alexa Williams with 10, and Maddie Champion with 9.

In the boys' game, Center moved out in front 18-11 in the first quarter and were up 40-25 at halftime.  The Yellowjackets outpointed the Celtics by six more points in the third quarter, and coasted to a one-sided victory.

For the O'Hara team, Desmond McDaniel had 19 points and Nick Naudet had 11 points and they were the only Celtics to reach double figures.  Kyle Baker and John Burton were each held to 8 points.
