Two More Shutouts for O'Hara Soccer

In the Summit Christian Academy Tournament, the Archbishop O'Hara High School soccer team shutout Barstow 6-0 and then KC Lutheran High School 10-0 for the Championship. _____ In the Barstow game, Sydney White scored twice while Hayley White, Stephanie Rieger, Natalie Seck, and Lindsay Beachner each had a goal. _____ It was the second shutout for goalkeeper Ciru Franklin. ______ Both teams entered the game with 1-0 records._____ _____ In the Championship game, goals were scored by Sydney White (3), Hayley White (3), Elaina Hagen (2), Mary Pat Brage (1) and Maddie Champion (1). _____ The defense of Lucia Crosetti, Lindsay Beachner, Kenzie Champion, Maddie Champion and Goalie Ciru Franklin notched their third consecutive shutout of the season.

SAINT PETER SCHOOL WINS O'HARA MATH CONTEST

At the Archbishop O'Hara Mathematics Contest on March 30th, Saint Peter Grade School won First Place with Saint Elizabeth edging out Presentation for Second Place. _____ Six students from Saint Peter led the way with 8th graders Alex Tangen, John Leisman, and Sarah Cigas placing first, third, and fourth.______ Adding to the school's team score were 7th graders Sam Nulton and Madi Winfield coming in first and fourth, and in the 6th grade competition, Ryan Ruff was fifth. _____ For Saint Elizabeth school four were in the top five with Maggie Mannebach in sceond place in 8th grade, Rebecca Leuschen and Daniel Pfaff in second and fifth place, and Janna Withrow in third for 6th grade. _____ The top three Presentation mathematicians were 8th grader Grace Pepple fifth, 7th grader Nathan Rotert third, and Mikela Puno fourth. _____ From Saint John Francis Regis school, Matthew Strobl was first in the 6th grade division and from Nativity Diana dela Cruz was second.

March 27 O'Hara First Places in Track

Competing with Saint James, Rockhurst and Saint Teresa Academy on March 27th, the Archbishop O’Hara High School track team took first places in boys shot put (Ben Kirse), high jump (D J Griffin), pole vault (Tanner Hull), triple jump (Tanner Hull), long jump (Montel Caruthers), 200 meters (Jorge Belcher), 100 meters (George Belcher), and 400 meters (Ife Siffre). _____ Girls took first places in pole vault (McKenzie Roberts) and 100 meters (Marli Bartlett). _____ In the relays, O’Hara was first in the boys 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 and in the girls 4x100.

O'HARA OPENS GIRLS SOCCER SEASON WITH A SHUTOUT

The Archbishop O'Hara High School girls soccer team opened their 2012 season with a 3-0 shutout with Grain Valley on March 26th. _____ Sophomore goalkeeper Ciru Franklin earned the shutout. ______ The offense consisted of two goals by Andi Davis and an insurance goal by freshman Hayley White.

FOUR ON ALL DISTRICT BASKETBALL FIRST TEAMS FROM O'HARA

Three girls and one boy from Archbishop O'Hara High School earned First Team Honors for their performances in Class 3 basketball. ______ From the Second Place Lady Celtics, Amanda Hull, Cydnee Reese, and Alexa Williams were named, and Kyle Baker was selected on the boys' squad. _____ Honorable mentions were awarded to Maquille Gatlin, Tanner Hull, Josh Madden, Maddie Champion, and Kelly Bachkora.

CELTIC VARSITY AKB TEAM IS FOURTH IN WCC

The team of Jake Fortin, Kierra Jackson, Jeff Best, George Morejon, Josh Austin, Ronald Clark, and Bridgett O'Shaughnessy from Archbishop O'Hara High School ended in fourth place in the varsity competition of the Academic Knowledge Bowl in the West Central Conference on March 3. ______ The top two teams in the six school Conference were Saint Pius X and Center. ______ ______ Jake Fortin was recently honored at the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association as a Scholar-Athlete and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Association. _____In addition to being one of twenty-two area football players cited, he led the O'Hara wrestling team with most wins during the past season.

Academic Knowledge Bowl Celtics JV In Three Way Tie

On March 3, The O'Hara JV Academic Knowledge Bowl team tied with Center and Saint Pius with each of the three teams winning and losing a round. _____ After the total points were added up, the team from Center came out ahead with 470, followed by 440 by O'Hara and 430 by Saint Pius. _____ Warrensburg, Clinton, and Smith-Cotton did not field JV teams at this West Central Conference event. ______ The players from O'Hara were Tony Darling, James Campo, Jeremy Ambrose, Cynthia Ononye, Colin McKinney, and Hailey Jordan.

O'HARA ROBOTICS TEAM REACHED TOP EIGHT

On March second and third, the Archbishop O'Hara High School Robotics Team reached the top eight in competition among 24 schools, but were eliminated in the first round. It is the highest ranking the Celtics have attained since the school's activity began.

O'Hara Math Team Takes Third Place in Contest

The Archbishop O’Hara High School Math Team finished in 3rd place at the University of Central Missouri Math Relays on Saturday, March 3rd. _____ The team competed in Division III with ten other schools. _____ The following students earned points for the O'Hara team by placing in the top five on various tests. _____ Sarah Rupp as the 4th Overall Senior with 2nd Place in 12th Grade Algebra, 2nd Place in Senior Math Topics, 2nd Place in Calculators and Computers and 5th Place in 12th Grade Geometry. _____ Brett Kies took 2nd Place in 10th Grade Algebra, 4th Place in 10th Grade Geometry, and made 2nd Place in 10th Grade Team. _____ Alex Higinbotham was 2nd Place in 10th Grade Geometry, 5th place in 10th Grade Algebra, and made the 2nd Place 10th Grade Team. _____ Ethan Ambrose scored 2nd Place in Number and Set Theory, 3rd Place in 11th Grade Geometry and made the 4th Place Team for the 11th Grade. _____ Mike Wulf placed twice takng 1st Place in 11th Grade Geometry and 3rd Place Math Proofs Team. _____ Jordan Wilcoxson had 5th Place in 9th Grade Algebra and 5th place in the 9th Grade Team. _____ Finally, Nick Hanaway reached 3rd Place in Math Proofs Team, Eric Sullentrup was on the 4th Place 11th Grade Team, and Kelsie Leathers finished on the 5th Place 9th Grade Team.

LADY CELTICS TAKE SECOND IN DISTRICT BASKETBALL

On March 2, the Archbishop O'Hara High School girls basketball team won the runner-up trophy for Class 3 District 14, dropping a 56-40 contest to the Saint Pius Warriors. _____ Competition in the first quarter was tense as the Celtics twice took a short lead but ended the quarter down by a point 12-11. ______ To start the second quarter, the Celtics took a slim lead before the Warriors put in ten unanswered points, and the Celtics were outscored 16-10 during that quarter. ______ Saint Pius outscored the Celtics by three in the third quarter and by six more in the fourth. _____ For the Celtics Alexa Williams and Cydnee Reese led in the scoring while Saint Pius was led in scoring by Danielle Kaullen with 20 points.
