O'Hara and Saint Pius Split in Basketball

On February 5th, the Archbishop O'Hara basketball teams hosted the Saint Pius X Warriors with the Celtics winning he girls game handily 47-24 and the Warriors outlasting the O'Hara boys 67-61.

Alexa Williams nailed three three-pointers in the first quarter of the girls contest to help the Celtics to a 13-8 lead.  By halftime O'Hara moved further ahead 24-15.

The Warriors couldn't cope with O'Hara's third quarter full court press and did not score a single point during the quarter while the Celtics tallied for 13.

Seven different players for the Lady Celtics scored points as Coach Haggerty utilized her entire bench.  The top two scorers were Amanda Hull with 15 and Alexa Williams with 12.

In the boys competition, Brian Kaufman broke a 9-9 tie with a three-pointer in the first quarter to give Saint Pius their first lead in the game.

The O'Hara team found the Warriors too tall to handle through most of the second and third quarters, and at one time the Warriors led the Celtics by 16 points when the score reached 43-29.

However, not only did the Warriors squander their large lead, a successful free throw by Zach Drake with 1:47 on the clock broke a 58-58 tie and O'Hara actually led by a point.

A basket by Brian Kaufman followed by a three-pointer by Nick Morgan added five points to the Saint Pius cause, and the Celtics were unable to catch up with so little time left in the game.

O'Hara was led in their scoring by Kyle Baker with 22 points, Desmond McDaniel with 18 points, and Isaac Uche with 10 points.
