Softball Team Go into Final Week of Play

LADY CELTICS WIND DOWN THEIR SEASON with just the Helias-Jefferson City Tournament and games with Saint Pius (senior night) and Smith-Cotton remaining before the competition begins for District. O’HARA SOFTBALL TEAM’S SUCCESS AT THE HELIAS TOURNAMENT The Lady Celtics won 16-6 over Notre Dame de Sion, lost 4-5 to St. Joseph from Saint Louis, and defeated Saint Teresa 6-2 in the Helias Softball Tournament held in Jefferson City over the weekend. The tournament was won by the host team Helias. The Celtics scored in every inning in the game with Sion. Caitlin Croker and Andi Davis pounded out four hits apiece. Not far behind, Jesse Smith, Kellie Bachkora, and Alex Paulakovich each contributed three hits. The big blast came from Patrice Jackson, a triple with two base runners on. In their only loss, the Celtics got two first inning runs on a two run homer by Patrice Jackson, and pushed across two more runs in the fourth inning from doubles by Patrice Jackson and Kellie Bachkora along with a sacrifice fly by Alex Paulakovich. Unfortunately in the close contest, the Celtics gave up two first innings runs, two third inning runs, and a singleton run in the fifth. Errors in the first and third innings proved costly to the Celtics. O’Hara opened the scoring in the game with Saint Teresa with a first inning run behind singles by Jesse Smith, Andi Davis, and Patrice Jackson. They added a second inning run with a double by Alex Paulakovich and a single by Melissa Batiz. Both squads scored two fourth inning runs. Surprisingly O’Hara had six singles in their fourth Inning but came up with only two runs. Saint Teresa got their two tallies on three singles. Adding icing on the cake, the Celtics scored twice in the 6th inning.Jesse Smith and Andi Davis had consecutive singles and Lindsey Davis brought them both home with a double.
