CELTICS SHUTOUT YELLOWJACKETS

O'HARA SHUTS OUT CENTER Even though neither the O'Hara Celtics nor the Center Yellowjackets were able to put points on the scoreboard in the first quarter of their game Friday night, the final score turned out to be a 32-0 rout. At the completion of the first quarter starting at their own 14 yard line, the Celtics launched the first of three drives that would result in a 20-0 halftime score. In this drive which was capped by a 12 yard TD run by Donnie Criswell, several long gains were made. A 22 yard run by Criswell, an 18 yard pass from TJ White to Danny Hernandez, and a 26 yard pass caught by Joe Pepple accounted for much of the yardage in the impressive drive. The Yellowjackets were able to advance the ball to the O'Hara 38 yard line before yielding on downs in the next series, and O'Hara scored their second TD in just two plays. First Aaron Stubblefield had a 43 yard reception and then James Tillman reached the endzone on a 15 yard carry. Again the Yellowjackets gave up the ball on downs, this time after getting as close as the 26 yard line. Taking eleven plays to obtain their third sixpointer, the Celtics cashed in on a 22 yard pass from TJ White to Aaron Stubblefield. Bryce Scovill's extra point was blocked following the touchdown, the first time this season he was unable to kick the extra point successfully. Neither team scored a third quarter touchdown. In one O'Hara drive however, Danny Hernandez caught three passes for 17, 20, and 16 yards before the ball was lost on a fumble. O'Hara did get on the scoreboard in the third quarter however. When the Celtic defense pushed the Yellowjackets all the way back to the one yard line, rather than kick from that deep of a hole, they centered the ball out of the endzone for a two-point safety and the privilege of kicking from the 20 yard line. In the fourth quarter, O'Hara brought the ball to the 18 yard line and running out of downs called upon Bryce Scovill to kick a 35 yard field goal. The final scoring of the game came with less than two and a half minutes of playing time. Following an exciting 38 yard run from scrimmage by Donnie Criswell, TJ White who had a total of 260 yards passing in the contest, passed to Aaron Stubblefield for 34 yards and the points. The game ended with Joe Melchior intercepting Harold Mabin's deep pass in the end zone. O'Hara had 475 total yards to Center's 105 yards. TJ White completed 15 passes. Donnie Criswell averaged 8.2 yards per carry. Danny Hernandez caught five passes for a total of 72 yards and Aaron Stubblefield caught three for 99 yards. James Tillman moved to tenth place in career rushing yards and TJ White with his excellent performance in this game moved to second place in total yardage for a single season. He already holds the school record for career passing yardage. Danny Hernandez's 19 catches this season ties him for tenth place in receiving for a single season. Joe Pepple is close behind with 18 receptions. Pepple aleady is the school leader for career reception yardage. Bryce Scovill now has 113 career extra points well ahead of his closest competitor. He has 26 for this season alone.
