R I P Brother Norman McCarthy
FORMER TEACHER AT O'HARA HIGH SCHOOL DIES IN TULSA
Brother Norman McCarthy, 70, a Christian Brother who taught at Archbishop O'Hara High School from 1986 to 1991, passed away from a stroke in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Brother Norman was a teacher of seniors in the school's Theology Department while at O'Hara.
He had taught in a number of Christian Brothers schools, had been a recruiter for the Brothers in the Midwest, and had served in the Brothers' overseas programs in Rome.
He specialized in a prayer program entitled "Centering" and had given annual programs during the summer months.
After leaving O'Hara in 1991, he had taught at Bishop Kelley High School until he had a stroke that limited his activity. He eventually suffered a second stroke from which he failed to recover.
Born in Chicago, he attended De La Salle High School in Chicago and received his teaching degree at Saint Mary's College in Minnesota.
