SMITH-COTTON OUTLASTS O'HARA 28-20

Bolstered by a 21 point second quarter, the Smith-Cotton Tigers won a close 28-20 football game with O'Hara at Paul Monteil Stadium on September 18th. Twice the Celtics had had the lead, in the first quarter 6-0 and just before halftime 20-14. The halftime score was 21-20. _____ The Celtics scored in the first quarter on a 2 yard pass from T. J. White to Raphael Spencer. Just previous to the touchdown, Spencer had run 63 yards to within the five yard line. _____ The Tigers were held scoreless throughout the first quarter; the Celtics have not given up a point in all of the four first quarters of the season. _____ The Tigers were first to score in the second quarter on a 28 yard pass play from Kendal Brown to Sam Brummett, taking a one point lead when Jacquelen Greer kicked the extra point. The Tiger defense had blocked O'Hara's extra point attempt earlier as they would again do after the Celtics' third TD. _____ After a sustained drive, the Tigers scored a touchdown on a 12 yard run by Andrew Byrd to increase the lead to 14-6. _____ On the kickoff following the Tiger score, Raphael Spencer sped 92 yards to bring O'Hara within two points. Louis Golden caught a pass for the two-point conversion to tie up the game. _____ Ted Dujakovich sacked the Tiger quarterback on a fourth down to give the Celtcs an opportunity to score in the final two minutes of the second quarter. _____ O'Hara scored the go-ahead touchdown on a hook-and-ladder play: T. J. White passed to Joe Melchior who immediately lateraled to Raphael Spencer who carried the ball to the goal line. The play covered 58 yards. _____ Shockingly, with a mere 16 seconds left to the half, Andrew Byrd returned O'Hara's kick for 75 yards and the slim halftime advantage. _____ Smith-Cotton scored the only touchdown of the second half on an 11 yard run by Jacob Hayworth. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
