Diana de la Cruz, a freshman at Archbishop O'Hara High School, was one of four who won scholarships at the Irish Cultural Center by the Ancient Order Of Hibernia last month.
The other three winners were students from Saint Pius X and Saint James Academy in Shawnee, Kansas.
The application for the scholarship included contact information, a brief biography, and a resume stating why the candidate is worthy of the award.
Service to school, church, and community along with school transcripts were submitted, and the process involved a 500 word essay on a topic related to the history of Ireland.
