For the second day in a row, the Archbishop O'Hara High School basketball team entered the fourth quarter of play in serious contention and was met with an avalanche of points. This time it was in the first round in the consolation bracket of the Nelson Division of the Holiday Classic played at William Jewell.
The Celtics entered the fourth quarter in their game with the Central Blue Eagles down by a single point 36-35, but gave up 24 points while only scoring 11 to drop the game 60-46.
The two squads completed the initial quarter tied at 13 apiece. The next ten points in the second quarter were scored by the Eagles who then led 23-13. Surprisingly the Celtics rallied with an onrush of points to take a two-point lead 27-25 at halftime!
Uncharacterically missing some layups and open shots, the O'Hara team fell behind during the third quarter, but remained within reach until the disasterous fourth quarter.
Freshman CJ Naudet led the Celtics with 13 points followed by 14 from Kyle Baker, the only senior on the team this year.

O'Hara 49 Fort Osage 60
On December 26th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School basketball team played in the American Family Insurance Holiday Basketball Classic at William Jewell and lost to the third seeded team in the Nelson Division, the Fort Osage Indians, 60-49. The first quarter put the Celtics pretty far behind by twelve points with a score of 20-8. But the team roared back outscoring the Indians 12-4 in the second quarter and only trailed by four at halftime. Within the third quarter, the Celtics briefly went ahead 25-24 on a basket and free thtrow by Kyle Baker but never led again. Nevertheless the Indians only held a two-point advantage entering the fourth quarter 34-32. Defenses then broke down and the Indians poured in 26 points with the Celtics answering with 17. Kyle Baker was the only O'Hara player in double figures scoring a total of 24 points which included five three-pointers. The Indians' top scorers were D'Vante Mosby with 15 and Zach Adams with 17. Fort Osage had 25 baskets to O'Hara's 24, but outpointed the Celtics 14 to 7 from the free throw line.

CELTICS TOP MAVERICKS 74-54 IN BASKETBALL
In preparation for their American Family Insurance Holiday Basketball Classic game scheduled for 10:30 AM on December 26th with 3rd seeded Fort Osage at William Jewel, the Archbishop O'Hara High School team won easily on December 20th 74-54 in their game with Metro Academy.
Jumping to an early lead, the speedy Celtics pulled ahead of the Mavericks to take a 21-9 first quarter advantage and maintained the lead throughout the rest of the contest.
The Celtics had nine three-point goals by a variety of players in the shooting spree. Although O'Hara utilized its entire bench, Isaac Uche led the scoring attack with 14 points with Desmond McDaniel and John Burton contributing 12 and 10 points.
Only five Mavericks scored points with Collin Gerringer leading the way with 21, followed by Alex Goetz with 11 and Logan Hardage with 10.
Most games scheduled for this date were cancelled because of the snow storm that hit the city. Eventually Harrisonville won the Tourney Championship with a 38-30 win over Drexel.

Celtics in the Raytown South Wrestling Event
The Archbishop O'Hara High School wrestling team competed at the Raytown South Christmas Tournament. For the Celtics, the top finishers were Maverick Griffin and Stephen Conway finishing with third places. Gerard Harker, Wyatt Franklin and Andres Garcia each placed seventh while Ethan Ambrose, Jeremy Ambrose, Sly Newman, Nihkil Fenani, and Eric Gossman all contributed to the team's performance.

LADY CELTICS IN THE HARRISONVILLE HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
Amanda Hull scored 25 points in O'Hara's first round basketball game in the Harrisonville Holiday Tournament on December 17th, defeating Butler 62-46. Alexa Williams had 15 and Cydnee Reese added 10. Nine of Williams' points were three-point shots.
Also in the first round Harrisonville was a winner with Sherwood 55-34 and Drexel won a close game with Nevada 54-49.
The team did not fare so well in their next game with Harrisonville and were six points short 40-34. The difference in the contest went back to the first quarter when the Celtics fell behind 11-3.
But the Wildcats were not able to outpoint the Celtics in any of the remaining quarters as O'Hara attempted to rally. O'Hara's top three scorers were Cydnee Reese and Amanda Hull with ten apiece and Alexa Williams with eight.

Christian Brothers 125 Years in Kansas City
In 1887, three members of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (often referred to as Christian Brothers) opened a small school in downtown Saint Patrick parish in Kansas City. After two years, the Brothers moved to Cathedral Commercial School near the Cathedral and conducted classes until 1910.
That was the year De La Salle Academy opened on the Paseo and the high school continued until 1971.
Archbishop O’Hara High School opened in 1965 with the Christian Brothers and the BVM Sisters involved.
Other ministries in the diocese began over the years involving tutoring programs, parish work, and the Catholic Worker House.
After one hundred and twenty five years, the Christian Brothers still serve in the Kansas City area.
There were seven Brothers in KC at the start of the year 2012. Midway through the year, three have been assigned away from the city: Brothers Dale Mooney to Browning, Montana; Douglas Hawkins to Saint Paul, Minnesota; and James Krause to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Four remaining Brothers are Richard Geimer, Chuck Gregor, Frederick Oberrieder, and Louis Rodemann. Brothers Richard and Chuck are teachers at Archbishop O’Hara High School. Brothers Frederick and Louis have retired and do volunteer work in the diocese.

O'Hara Bests Warrensburg in Both Girls and Boys Basketball
After the Archbishop O'Hara High School girls basketball team won their game 47-37 against Warrensburg, the boys' squad followed with a 58-45 win on December 14th at O'Hara.
Cydnee Reese led the way with 12 points in the girls' game with Amanda Hull scoring 9 and Alexa Williams scoring 8.
The game was close the first half with O'Hara on top by one point 17-16 at the half, but after stretching the lead to five points at the end of the third quarter 29-25, the Lady Celtics went on an 11-0 run to open the final period, and the team coasted the remainder of the way.
In the boys' varsity game, the Celtics opened with 6-0 as Luke McCarville and Kyle Baker hit back-to-back treys. The team never trailed the rest of the way leading by ten at halftime.
O'Hara's top four scorers were Kyle Baker with 17, Isaac Uche with 13, Luke McCarville with 9 and Desmond McDaniel with 7.
Prior to the varsity games, the JV O'Hara boys had a 48-44 win in a relatively close encounter and the JV girls were winners also.

LADY CELTICS ARE RANKED FIFTH
Based on the games played up to December 12th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School girls basketball team was ranked 5th in the Kansas City Star's small class rankings. The Celtics had a record of 4-1 with Lawson ranked first with a 5-1 record. Ahead of the O'Hara team were Tonganoxie 2-0, Piper 3-1, and Bonner Springs 2-1.

O'Hara Win Two Away Basketball Games
On December 11th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School boys basketball team won a West Central Conference game with Sedalia Smith-Cotton 79-61. In a closer game on December 7th the team defeated Father Tolton 57-52. The Celtics improved their record to 7-1.

O'HARA WRESTLERS WIN TEN-TEAM INVITATIONAL
With a team score of 218 points, the Archbishop O'Hara High School wrestlers won the Bishop Miege Invitational on December 8th.
First places for the Celtics along with their weight classes were Eero Johnson (285), Spencer Mathews (160), Maverick Griffin (152), Gerard Harker (146), Ethan Ambrose (126), and Nikhil Fenani (113) who wrestled as unattached since O'Hara had two athletes in the same weight class.
Of the other nine schools represented, Sumner was runner-up with 117 team points.
In addition to the host team Bishop Miege, schools from Bishop Ward, Saint Pius X, Saint Mary's, Spring Hill, Sherwood, Lone Jack, and Prembroke Hill were in competition.

O'Hara wins in Wrestling Over Three WCC Schools
On December 6th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School wrestling team hosted Clinton, Center, and Saint Pius X. The Celtics won over their three opponents, the closest scoring was against the Clinton Cardinals 41-35.

O'HARA 76 SAVANNAH 52 IN BOYS BASKETBALL
On December 4th, the Archbishop O'Hara High School boys basketball team hosted the Savannah Savages and won 76-52. The Celtics built up a seven point margin in the first quarter in which Kyle Baker hit two three-pointers and C. J. Naudet added one. By halftime. O'Hara was ahead 46-30. Kyle Baker with 20, Isaac Uche with 18, Nick Naudet with 12, and Luke McCarville with 10 were in double figures while Desmond McDaniel just missed with 9 points. Jesse Dickens managed 21 points for the Savages.
The JV game was very close with the Celtics winning 51-48. Entering the fourth quarter, O'Hara was down 41-40. John Burton scored seven for the Celtics on two three-point shots and a free throw in the quarter.

LADY CELTICS WIN 34-27
The Archbishop O'Hara girls basketball team scored only four points in their first quarter with Pembroke Hill on November 30 but nonetheless had double the score of their opponents. By halftime, the Celtics advanced to a 15-10 lead on their way to a 34-27 win. Amanda Hull led O'Hara team with 11 points. For the Raiders, Ereka Hunt helped by three three-pointers, had 12 points, and Allysa Lisbon ended her game with 10. Alexa Williams provided the Celtics with their lone three point shot.
