EXTRA POINT CONVERSIONS DECIDE LOSS FOR O’HARA
The Archbishop O’Hara High School football team lost their Homecoming game with Saint Pius X on October 12 by a final score of 20-19.
After missing the extra point kick for their first touchdown, the Celtics failed to convert a two-point attempt on their second one. After they were ahead by two touchdowns Zach Drake made the third one. However, the Warriors kicked their first two and that was enough for a one point victory.
The Celtics scored on their opening drive. Brock Hughes ran for a 37 yard touchdown.
At the end of the first quarter, Saint Pius pulled ahead after Nicholas Kelliher scored on 7 yard run. Daniel Hoambrecker added the extra point that turned out to be the final margin of the game.
O’Hara’s successful drive for a second quarter touchdown consumed a lot of time with short gains, with the exception of a 16 yard pass play from Michael Briggs to Hondo Pearcy. The last yard was accounted for by Brock Hughes and the Celtics moved ahead at halftime 12-7.
In the third quarter, it appeared O’Hara would have an insurance TD when Brock Hughes scored his third touchdown of the game on an 11 yard run.
Early in the fourth quarter Saint Pius pushed across a touchdown on a quarterback plunge by Grant Gavin but O’Hara still led by a score of 19-14.
With six minutes remaining in the game, the Warriors got possession and held on to the ball while whittling away with yardage. It took fifteen plays and a desperation 4th down and nine situation, but finally with only 35 seconds of playing time, Gasbe Akalugwu passed to Marshall Mason on a halfback pass play for 12 yards and the Warriors’ last TD.
