STORMS AT STATE TRACK
O'Hara's Max Storms took fourth place in the long 3200 meter race on Saturday, May 30th in the Class 3 State competition in Jefferson City. His time was 9:30.76 with the winning time of 9:22.48 by a runner from Potosi. He finished the Class 3 State 1600 meter run in fifth place on the previous day. Timed at 4:17.12, he was edged out of fourth place by his Sectional rival Harrisonville's Maksim Korolev who had a time of 4:16.94. The top three places in this race were won by runners from Potosi and Westminster. Sixth place was taken by a West Plains runner whose time of 4:18.09, indicating how close the competition was at State level.

Five Soccer Players Honored
Juniors Taylor Eason and Kaylea Lancaster along with sophomore Lindsey Hanaway made the ALL WEST CENTRAL CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM playing for Archbishop O'Hara High School. Sophomore Katie Brage and freshman Andi Davis were name to the SECOND TEAM ALL CONFERENCE. Three of these players also were selected to the ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM: Taylor Eason, Lindsey Hanaway, and Andi Davis.

ALL CONFERENCE BASEBALL
Junior Aaron Stubblefield and sophomore Cullen Rowland from O'Hara were selected to the FIRST TEAM ALL WEST CENTRAL CONFERENCE BASEBALL.
Rowland was chosen as a pitcher but also filled in on occasion at first base while Stubblefield was chosen as a utility player having contributed on the mound as well as at shortstop.
Three players made the SECOND TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE. Outfielder Chuck Preston, pitcher & firstbaseman Mike Lynch, and pitcher & infielder Aarom Mitchell were seleced.
The Celtic team came in third in the Conference with a 6-4 record.
Congratulations
Brittany Crawford who will be a sophomore next year and Allison Seck who will be a junior have been chosen for the Girls Grant Project this summer.

TRACK SECTIONALS
Max Storms who had already won the State Cross Country Championship in his classification during his junior year, as a senior moved on in the Track Sectionals to the State competition next weekend in both the 3200 meter run and the 1600 meter race.
He took first place in the 3200 meters and second place in the 1600 meters.
Both races turned out to be a two-runner competition with only Max Storms from O'Hara and Maksim Korlev from Harrisonville well ahead of the rest of the field.
At 9:38.17, Storms outdid Korlev in the longer race. Korlev's time was 9:45.32 with the bronze medal going to a Clinton runner whose time was a distant 9:52.72.
Settling for the silver medal at 1600 meters, Max had a time of 4:20.97, just a hair short of Korlev's 4:20.5! The bronze medalist from Saint Pius X was in at a distant 4:33.93.
Saturday's Sectionals were held at Kearney High School.
-----HERE IS ANOTHER REPORT ON THE SAME TOPIC ---- Max Storms competed in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter races at the Class 3 Sectionals in Kearney and qualified for State competition in both.
In the 1600 he set a personal record with a 4:20.97 coming in second to Maksim Korlov less than a second.
In the 3200 he set a sectional record (which atually wasn't his personal best time) with 9:30.17 and was first. The previous sectional record was set in 1999 by Brock Babcock of Platte County with a time of 9:41.7
Storms will be the sole representative of the Celtic Track team at the State meet in Jefferson City next weekend.
Paulina Pengelley came in fifth in the discus with a personal best distance of 108 feet.
. Freshman Kayla McDowell competed in 100 meter hurdles taking 7th place and in the Triple Jump with a personal best leap of 17 feet, one inch. It was good enough to place 5th.

2009-2010 Varsity Cheerleaders
Eleven O'Hara students were named to the 2009-2019 varsity cheerleading team. The selectees were Selchia Cain, Catherine Duncan, Nikiea Henderson, Alex Keffer-Swaney, Kayla McDowell, Leilani Riley, Sarah Rupp, Jayla Smith, Brynn Thibault, Natalya Washington, and Skyler Young. Except for McDowell and Thibault who live in Raytown, and Rupp who lives in Lee's Summit, the others live in Kansas City. Coaches for the team are Melissa Wiehn and Coriann Sperling.

BASEBALL DISTRICT
In a five inning game, the O'Hara baseball team won a 14-1 rout of Renaissance School in the first round of District play.
Jake Slocum pitched a two-hitter.
Multiple RBI's were registered by Jake Slocum, Jared Ginter, and Chuck Preston.
Then the Celtics lost in the semifinals to Pembroke Hill 8-6 to end their 2009 season.

Soccer Team in District
Taylor Eason, one of the few juniors on a sophomore-freshman dominated Celtic soccer team, score five goals in a 7-0 romp in the first round of Class 2 District 6 competition over Oak Grove.
Freshmen Derrianna White got the shutout and Andi Davis scored twice for O'Hara.
In the second round, the Celtics were eliminated by Pembroke Hill 9-1. Taylor Eason got O'Hara's lone goal. The Celtics completed their season with a record of 6-20.

STUDENT SCHOLAR
Max Storms, valedictorian for the 2009 class of Archbishop O'Hara High School and holder of a good number of cross country and track school records, was selected as the Scholar-Athlete from the school. He was captain of the cross country team, the track team, and the Academic Knowledge Bowl team in his senior year. On a scale of 4.0, he has the top rank among a class of 86 with a 4.5 grade point average. Among his accomplishments, Max was a National Council of English Teachers' Essay winner. He attended Missouri Boys State and plans to attend the Universtiy of Missouri. He was a member of the Student Council, the robotics team, and had one of the top senior projects for the year. Max is the son of Mike and Mary Pat Storms. Mike is an alumnus of O'Hara who excelled in his years at the school in cross country and track. Also nominated as the 2009 Scholar-Athlete was Joe Pepple who was a member of the Celtics' football and basketball teams and had a high grade point average.

District Track 2009
The O'Hara Track Team had three qualifiers in District competition on May 16th. Kayla McGee won the silver medal in the triple jump at 34'7", and bronze medals in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.36 and in the long jump at 15'6". Max Storms took two silver medals in the mile run timed at 4:30.85 and the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:49.39. Paulina Pengelley was a bronze medal winner in the discuswith a toss of 105 feet. The top three schools in the boys' competition were Ruskin, Harrisonville, and Warrenburg and the top three schools in the girls' competition were Warrensburg, Ruskin, and Pleasant Hill. The O'Hara boys team came in 11th out of 14 schools and the girls team were 9th among 15 schools.
BACCALAUREATE ON MAY 15TH
On the traditional feast day of Saint John Baptist De La Salle, Patron of all Teachers, the Archbishop O'Hara High School Baccalaureate Mass took place at Saint John Francis Regis Church at a 6 PM ceremony.
Reverend Thomas J. Holder, Pastor of the church and an O'Hara alumnus, was the Presider at the liturgy.
He addressed the seniors and their parents & friends with the theme of Act Justly, Love Tenderly, and Walk Humbly as he focused in on the stress that comes with coping with senior projects, homeworks, and college anticipation.
Two awards were presented at the ceremony. The Tyler Jones Scholarship which has been annually announced for the past eleven years was won by Alicia Bertrand, and the annual Saint Ls Salle Award was given to Joseph Pepple.
Thirteen senior projects were singled out for special recognition. Four were given SUPERIOR rating accomplished by Allison Seiler, Chance Norton, Kimberly Jones, and Alicia Bertrand. Nine had EXCELLENT ratings by Megan Billings, Jong-Gu Chae, Lindsey Davis, Elizabeth Ford, Elisabeth Lowe, Rebecca McInerny, Madeline Rembold, Maximilian Storms, and Lauren Twyman.
The Salutaorian of the class, Kim Jones, made her presentation on the past four years of the class progress. The valedictorian, Max Storms, was introduced and his speech is a part of Sunday's graduation ceremony.

How O'Hara Did in WCC Track Championships
MAX STORMS IS TRIPLE WINNER AT WCC
In the West Central Conference Championships on May 8th, Max Storms from Archbishop O'Hara High School won the 3200 meter, the 1600 meter, and the 800 meter runs. His time in the first was 10:21.47, in the second 4:32.67 and in the third 2:02.17.
He also ran a leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that came in third place along with Jasper Greeson, Brett Coatney, and Jim Clark.
The O'Hara 4x100 meter relay team took second place with Raphael Spencer joining Greeson, Coatney, and Clark.
Raphael Spencer added a bronze medal for the long jump and Tanner Hull had the bronze for the pole vault.

In the girls competition, Gold medals were won by Skyler Young in the shot put and Kayla McGee in the long jump. Young's winning shot was 33'4.75" nd McGee's distance was 16'9".
Kayla McGee won two silver medals in the triple jump and in the 100 meter hurdles.
Bronze mdeal winners for O'Hara were earned by Paulina Pengelley in the discus, Dakota Waggerman in the long jump, Hailey Houser in the high jump, and Paige Bush in the 400 meter dash.
Warrensburg won theboys' Conference Title with 174 points, followed by Smith-Cotton 145.5, Center 80.5, O'Hara 59.5, Center 55, and Saint Pius X 40.
They also won the girls' division with 140 points, followed by Smith-Cotton 100.5, Center 98, Clinton 83.5, O'Hara 73, and Saint Pius X 43.

NEW O'HARA NHS OFFICERS
Nicole Krawczyk is the new 2009-2010 National Honor Society president at Archbishop O'Hara High School. Lyndsey Lopez will serve as the vice-president and Jenna Mahlberg as the secretary. Brandon Wesche was elected treasurer and Erin Lynch the junior representative.
Celtics Add Two Conference Wins in Baseball
The Archbishop O'Hara baseball team won a conference game 4-1 over the Warresnburg Tigers on May 5th.
This was O'Hara's second win against Warrensburg this season.
Cullen Rowland pitched the entire game for the win.
Joey Tucker had three hits in the game along with two RBI's.
Aaron Mitchell had two hits and Jared Ginter got on base base three times with one hit and two walks.

On the following day, Smtih-Cotton fell to the Celtics 2-1.
Sam Janet's high hopper in the sixth inning when the bases were loaded scored the deciding run.
Aaron Stubblefield was the winner of the pitchers' duel giving up only three hits.
Chuck Preston got O'Hara's earlier RBI.
Alex Gaul-Pearson had some great defensive plays in the game.
It was the Celtics' fourth Conference game of the season.
The junior varsity won a slugfest 10-9 with Drew Fennesy contributing three hits for O'Hara
WCC ACADEMIC ALL CONFERENCE
The All Academics Team for the West Central Conference included the following O’Hara students. Making the First Team All Conference Academic Team were Max Storms, Kim Jones, and Joe Pepple. All three had ACT scores of over 31. The Archbishop O'Hara Academic Knowledge Bowl took second place in the West Central Conference. The other varsity members were Trevor Krasowsky, Lindsey Davis, Mike Lynch, Joe Volz, and Mike Berney.
