O’HARA 12 SMITH-COTTON 17
As in all their previous football games this season, the Archbishop O’Hara Celtics scored two touchdowns but this time came up short due to a field goal and two extra points, losing to the Smith-Cotton Tigers 12-17.
Chance McMullin scored the Tigers’ first touchdown on a 2 yard run on Smith-Cotton’s initial drive consuming sixteen plays. Then they were held scoreless for the next two quarters.
The Celtics responded with a touchdown run of 19 yards by Ronnie Sailer in the second quarter but Zach Drake’s extra point attempt failed and the halftime score was 7-6 in favor of the visiting team.
A sack by the Celtics’ Robert Martin and an interception by Ronnie Sailer helped keep the score close.
Two 15 yard pass plays to Brock Hughes and a 13 yard pass from Michael Briggs to Hondo Percy were key plays in the drive.
Timothy Lor kicked a field goal at the start of the fourth quarter giving the Tigers a 10-6 lead. Later in the quarter, Henry Contreras ran for a 5 yard TD, and Timothy Lor’s second extra point kick rounded out the Tigers’ scoring for the evening.
O’Hara covered 70 yards in two pass plays to earn their last touchdown. Brock Hughes caught a 20 yarder and Cardell Miller caught one from the fifty yard line. O’Hara’s two-point conversion attempt resulted in an incomplete pass.
Both teams ended the day with identical 2-4 records, but both of Smith-Cotton’s wins were Conference games and neither of O’Hara’s was.
