OHara seniors 2008

BACCALAUREATE CEREMONIES AT ARCHBISHOP O'HARA HIGH SCHOOL On the evening of May 16th, the seniors and parents were honored at the Archbishop O'Hara High School Baccalaureate ceremonies. After a liturgy concelebrated by Reverend Terry Bruce, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Church, and Reverend Thomas Holder, Pastor of Saint John Francis Regis Church, the Salutatorian Address was given by Rachel Crawford. The Co-Valedictorians were also introduced who make their presentations at the Sunday, May 18th Graduation ceremonies at John Knox Village Pavillion. They were Kevin Sack and Cameron Hinkel. Three senior projectx were recognized for superior ratings. They were Video-Photography Sports by Greg Eagle, Peer Mentors Program by Erin Stephenson and Katie Bachkora, and Teaching Ballet by Rachel Crawford. Austin Stockard was the recipient of the annual Tyler Jones Scholarship and the Saint LaSalle Award was shared by Emily DeMarea and Katie Stark. The class of 2008's senior gift was a banner of the O'Hara school song.mounted in the gym.

Two From O'Hara are State Qualifiers in Track

O'Hara's Max Storms won the Class 3 Sectionals 3200 meter race held at Kearney last weekend. His time was 9:54.80. He was the only runner to complete the run under 10 minutes. . He was also a State qualifier for the 1600 meter run by turning in the second-best time. His time for this event was 4:25.69 with the winning time clocked at 4:25.37 ! Last Autumn he won the cross country State championship and now has a shot at the State championship in these two track events. Max is a junior. Bryce Dennis qualified for State competition in the discus although there were three participants with better throws. He qualified by taking fourth place with a throw of 139'11". All three of those ahead of him were over 140 feet. Both races were for 1600 meters. The boys that ran were Max Storms, T. J. White, Joe Pepple, and Terrell Johnson. The girls' team were Breanna Ransburg, Emily DeMarea, Chelsea Rose, and Stevie Katzer. The boys that ran were Max Storms, T. J. White, Joe Pepple, and Terrell Johnson. O'HARA'S Gold Medalists in WCC

STORMS AND Max Storms won the 3200 meter run and T. J. White won the high jump in the West Central Conference Meet held in Harisonville. Max Storms also took second place in the 1600 meter run. Bryce Dennis was runner-up in the discus. Terrell Johnson took third in the 400 meter dash. Emily DeMarea won second place in the 300 meter hurdles and third place in the 100 meter hurdles. She ran the first leg of the 400 meter relay which came in second place. Other runners of the relay team were Cameron Randle, Breanna Ransburg, and Chelsea Rose. The 800 meter relay team of Anna German, Cameron Randle, Breanna Ransburg, and Chelsea Rose also won second place.

Celtic Girls Win Home Invitational Meet

The annual O'Hara Invitational Track Meet was held on Wednesday, April 9th with the Lady Celtics winning first place and the O'Hara boys coming in second. Led by Cameron Randle who took home four gold medals, the O'Hara girls had 125 team points to outlast Saint Pius with 115 points. Max Storms and Bryce Dennis each won two gold medals to help the boys' squad take second place to Saint Pius. O'Hara had 130 team points to Saint Pius' 143 points. Other schools participating in the Meet were Center, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame de Sion, Barstow, Saint Teresa's, and University Academy. In the girls division, Cameron Randle ran the 100 meter dash in 14.22 and did the 200 meters in 29.84 for two individual first places. She also ran in the 400 meter relay (57.16) and the 800 meter relay (1:59.46) for her other two golds. Others contributing legs to the two relay victories were Emily DeMarea, Janell Jordan, Breanna Ranburg, Lindsey Hill, and Anna German. Hailey Houser won the high jump at 4' 8". In the boys division, in the 800 meter run Max Storms finished first with a time of 2:00.41 and the 1600 meter run at 4:50.16. Bryce Dennis took the shot put with a throw of 43' 4" and the discus with a toss of 146' 1". Terrell Johnson was the gold medalist in the 400 meter run timing out at 56.16. Adding to the team scores were second places by Emily DeMarea in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Stevie Katzer in the 1600 meter run, Paulina Pengelley in the shot put, and Rachel Gudde were also Silver medals. Joe Pepple came in second in the 300 meter hurdles, Anthony Kinnard was second in the lengthy 3200 meter run, and the O'Hara relay teams in the 3200 meter relay and the 800 meter relay were runners-up.

Celtics Have Young Players for This Year's Baseball Season

Only two seniors are on O'Hara's varsity baseball team this season. Danny Apgar, a defensive standout last year, and Mike Rowland, who was selected to the All West Central Conference Team and the All-District Team. Rowland had a pitching ERA of 0.90 and batted .300 while playing first base on days when not on the mound. Apgar will be in left field. One goal last year's team had was to reach or better .500 for the year. The team just missed the goal with a 10-11 record. Another goal was to win the West Central Conference. Warrensburg with just two Conference losses won the top position, and O'Hara with four Conference losses was tied for second place. Three sophomores on this year's team contributed handily as freshmen last year.. Aaron Stubblefield not only played both outfield and third base, he pitched and maintained a .313 batting average. Chuck Preston played center field and led the team in scoring; his batting average was .295. Aaron Mitchell was the shortstop and made only six errors in 63 opportunities. The juniors on the team are Donnie Criswell who will open the season as the team's second base man, Vince Saviano, a relief pitcher, outfielder, and first base man, Mike Lynch, a left-handed pitcher, and Joey Tucker who expects to be the starting catcher this year. Head Coach George Peter has several other players to help fill in for the six seniors of last year lost through graduation. Among these are Travis Peter, Luke Davila, and several freshmen that have demonstrated enthusiastic talent.

Saint Mary's Fall Classic

O'Hara Runner Wins For Seventh Time Max Storms, a junior cross country runner from Archbishop O'Hara High School, won his seventh First Place race for the 2007 season at the Saint Mary's Fall Classic in preparation for the District and State races coming up on October 27th and November 3rd. Max's previous Firsts were attained at the first Saint Mary's Invitational, the Invitionals at Oak Grove, Platte County, Smithville, and Saint Paul, and finally at the West Central Conference Invitational. He finished second at the Helias Invitational and sixth at the prestigious Kansas City Metro Invitational. At the first mile marker, Max was clocked at 5:24 and he had a time of 11:20 at the second mile. His total time in this win was 17:11. At Saint Mary's on October 20, his team came in second to Saint Mary's, seven team points behind Saint Mary's who took first place. Medals were awarded to the top 20 finishers and O'Hara did very well with Matt Bader taking the 4th place medal and Steven Weber the 7th place medal. Anthony Kinnard, Graham Grier, Trevor Gudde, and Andy Meyer also were medal winners. The girls varsity had six medal winners with their team also coming in second overall. They were Stevie Katzer, Aliyah Jones, Andrea Backstrom, Mackenzie Shelton, Amelia Ernstmann, Chelea Rose, and Kristina Snyder. Other teams involved in the races for the day were Odessa, Lone Jack, and Holden.
