CENTER HUMBLES WEST CENTRAL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS

The Center Yellowjackets surprised the West Central Conference Champions from O'Hara with a 24-6 win on October 7. ______ The O'Hara Celtics for the first time in seven games failed to score 28 or more points which would have been enough to win this game, and may be without their starting quarterback Jake Fortin who had to leave the game with an injury. _____ O'Hara's only touchdown was a 19 yard pass from freshman quarterback Michael Briggs to Brandon Dennis, but the extra point following the TD was blocked. _____Meanwhile, the Yellowjackets scored twice in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. _____ Center's two first half touchdowns were on a fourth down one-yard run by Anthony Eskridge and a 26 yard breakaway by Gage King. _____ The fourth quarter began with the score at 14-6 but Anthony Eskridge got the insurance TD for the Yellowjackets on a 4 yard run and before the contest was over, Kilvert Martinez converted a 38 yard field goal._____ After Fortin left the game junior Cardell Miller and freshman Michael Briggs shared the quarterbacking. ______ The only exciting play of the evening was a 96 Yard touchdown pass play from Jake Fortin to Brandon Dennis which was called back due to an overeager blocking penalty that was not part of the play. ______ The Celtics had won the West Central Conference two weeks prior to the game when they were undefeated and every other Conference team had two or more losses. _____ As a result, O'Hara has the Conference's best record at 4-1 while Center ended their Conference play at 2-3 along with Clinton, Warrensburg, and Smith-Cotton with identical records. ______ Saint Pius took second place in the Conference with a 3-2 Conference record.
