O'Hara Takes Third Place in District Knowledge Bowl

O'Hara's Mike Berney was named to the ALL DISTRICT ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAM along with Jake Billingsy and Jason Gober from Holden, Dustin Wallace from Knob Noster, Glenn Wyman from Oak Grove, and Jacob Luehrman from Odessa. _____Five students made up the O'Hara Academic Knowledge Bowl team for Class 3 DISTRICT 14 competition on Saturday, April 17th. _____ Mike Berney was the lone senior and the team captain, and Andy Meyer and Josh Bonello were the two juniors on the team. _____ Finally, two talented sophomores completed the team: Kierra Jackson and Jake Fortin. _____ O'Hara had won the West Central Conference in March and took Second Place last year in District, but this this year had to settle for Third in District. _____ Holden was the overall winner with a 5-0 showing and repeated as the District Champs beating Knob Noster 240-180. _____Knob Noster came in Second with a 3-2 record. _____ O'Hara was next at 2-2. _____ The competition began in pool play in the afternoon with three rounds involving the six participating schools. _____ From the afternoon competition, only Holden survived undefeated and Pleasant Hill, the host team, dropped all three of their contests. _____ O'Hara and Knob Noster had identical 2-1 records as did Odessa and Oak Grove at 1-2 (Odessa went on the semifinals in the evening having the better point spread). _____ In O'Hara's semifinal game with Knob Noster, the Celtics lost 180-150. _____ The day began very well for O'Hara as they started off with a 120-50 win against Pleasant Hill. _____ However they then lost to Odessa 160-100 and came back with a close 150-130 decision defeating Oak Grove.
