Brock Hughes scored four touchdowns along with a two-point conversion, but it wasn’t enough as the Archbishop O’Hara High School football team lost to the Richmond Spartans 42-36 on August 30.
O’Hara’s remaining points were on a touchdown pass from Michael Briggs to Zack Drake and Drake’s four extra points. Drake also attempted a long field goal which went left of the goal posts.
At the start of the game, both teams punted on their first possessions. Then the Celtics got their first touchdown on an eighty yard pass play from Michael Briggs to Zack Drake.
The Spartans answered with a three yard run by Tommy Wedgeworth and an extra point by Shane Battagler.
Still in the first quarter, Brock Hughes broke loose for a 57 yard TD run.
Richmond pulled ahead for the first time in the second quarter with a three yard TD run by Brock Strokes and a two point conversion on a pass from Quinton Maxwell to Nathan Lundholm.
Brock Hughes put O’Hara back in the lead with an eight yard run and then increased the lead with a three yard TD making the score 28-15 at the time.
With just over a minute of playing time in the first half, quarterback Tommy Wedgeworth scored on 23 yard keeper.
Before the halftime festivities and with only 23 seconds on the clock, Brock Hughes ran for a 50 yard touchdown and the Celtics led 36-22.
The Celtics failed to score in the second half while the Spartans picked away at the tiring O’Hara defense.
The only touchdown in the third quarter was a 7 yard run by Brock Strokes.
In the final quarter, the Spartans got touchdowns on a 10 yard run by Brock Strokes to tie the game at 36-36, and an 11 yard run by Quinton Maxwell to break the tie with less than two minutes left in the contest.
