O'HARA WRESTLERS WIN BIG ON SENIOR NIGHT

On January 12th, the O'Hara Celtic wrestling team ran their season record to 6-2 for the year with an impressive 54-16 win over the Butler Bears. _____ Captain Miles Womack started the dual meet by going up a weight class and winning with a pin. _____ Nick Schofield won on forfeit as did Stephen Conway. _____ Senior Josh Snow battled for the full six minutes but came up a little short. ______ Ben Kirse won a 3-2 match against a tough opponent. ______Freshman Nihkil Fenani had a pin in the third period increasing the Celtic lead. _____ Ian Levy fought well but for the second night in a row ran up against the opponents' best wrestler and fell short. _____ Tanner Warner received a forfeit and Tyler Adams lost in a well wrestled match. _____ Senior Jake Fortin came up big in his last home match with a first period fall. He has shown great determination after suffering a major knee reconstruction last year. _____ Freshman Maverick Griffin won a hard fought 4-2 decision over a solid opponent. _____ Freshman Spencer Mathews continued a great freshman season by pinning his opponent. _____ The dual meet ended with junior Peyton Franklin, also wrestling up a weight class and earning another pin for the Celtics. ______ Coach Kevin Stanley had the following comment, "It was a great night for the team and especially the seniors. I enjoyed our get together at the end and hope there are many more nights like this to come. I would like to thank all the seniors and their families for the hard work and support they have given the team." _____ _____ _____ _____On Saturday the wrestlers had another good day at a tournament at Center. _____ Nine Celtic wrestlers signed up for the event and came home with five medals: one gold, two silvers and two bronze. _____ Ethan Ambrose battled to a 2-3 record but lost a 3-1 match. _____ Jake Fortin took second place for the day running his record to 13-3. _____ Maverick Griffin also placed second with a 4-1 record on the day. Both Jake and Maverick lost to a State Finalist in overtime and by 1 point. _____ Peyton Franklin increased his record to 21-8 with a dominant performance winning his bracket and he did not get extended to the second period all day finishing with a 5-0 record._____ Miles Womack earned a bronze medal with a 4-1 showing. _____ Robert Martin in his first tournament placed third and had just one slip up that cost him the gold. _____ Ben Kirse, Stephen Conway and Josh Snow also competed in this event.
