O'HARA WIN WEST CENTRAL CONFERENCE

On February 11 O'Hara hosted the girls and boys basketball teams from Warrensburg and won both games. ____ The boys game ended with a 60-49 score while the girls game went into overtime until the Lady Celtics emerged a 47-42 winner. _____ Along with Sedalia's 56-51 win over Center on the same night, the Celtics are guaranteed the Championship in the West Central Conference with a record of 8-0 with two remaining games to be played. ____ Center, O'Hara's closest rival, went to 6-3 with their loss. _____ _____ In the boys O'Hara-Warrensburg contest, the Tigers came out strong at the start and went ahead 15-4. _____ However, the Celtics worked their way back to complete the first quarter down by just four points at 15-11. _____ By halftime the margin was two points 26-24 but throughout the first half O'Hara never took the lead. _____ The fast-paced Celtics opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run behind baskets by Daniel Hurtt and Jevon Lyle, and the Celtics never trailed again. _____ 19 points were scored in the game by DJ Jackson while Daniel Hurtt was good for 15 and Jevon Lyle came through with 11. _____ The top point producer in the game was TJ Cutler who had 24 points, 18 of which were three-pointers but he was the only Tiger player that was in double figures. _____ _____ In the girls varsity game, the Tigers owned a one-point lead 22-21 at the half and the Celtics were ahead 33-32 after three quarters. _____ The teams were knotted at 39-39 at the end of regulation time after the Celtics missed on their last five free throws in the fourth quarter. _____ Momentarily the Tigers had a slim lead of 41-39 at the beginning of overtime but only managed one additional point while the O'Hara players were constantly being sent to the free throw line. _____ Remarkably the O'Hara players missed on eleven free throws in the overtime period alone. ____ They did cash in on six however which was more than enough for the win.
