STATE CHAMP SKYLER YOUNG IN SHOT PUT!
Improving each week, sophomore Skyler Young won the gold medal in the State Class 3 shot put on May 29th. ____ The Archbishop O'Hara High School athlete achieved the Championship with a distance of 41'4". _____ In the Sectionals, Young had a distance of 38'3.25" which was good enough for second place, and the previous week she took second in District with a 35'10" toss.
Football Metro Classic Kansas 26 Missouri 23
For the second year in a row, the margin in the score of the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Metro Classic was three points as Kansas won over Missouri 26-23. _____ Last year Missouri won 10-7. ______ At first it looked like Missouri would come out on top, building up a 15-0 advantage, until Kansas answered with a touchdown before halftime. _____ However Kansas continued to score until reaching a 26-15 lead. _____ A touchdown followed by a two-point conversion by Missouri ended the scoring of the day. _____ _____ From the 2009 Archbishop O'Hara High School football team, Ted Dujakovich, was an offensive lineman on the Missouri roster for the game played on Thursday, June 17 at Shawnee Mission North. _____ The O'Hara Celtics had taken third in State in their Class. _____ Dujakovich had the jersey number 78 and is headed for Blue River Community College in the Fall. _____ _____ The GKCFCA Metro Classic was established in 1991 with top seniors of Missouri playing their counterparts from Kansas. _____ The Missouri team also had one of their assistant coaches, Mike Edinger, from O'Hara's coaching staff.

O'Hara Dance Team Members Announced
Melissa Wiehn announced the nine young ladies that will be making up the 2010-2011 O'Hara Celtics Dance Team. _____ They are Ellen Balentine, Kaitlyn Vinck, Candace Miller, Cameo Miller, Amelia Ernstmann, Apryl Denzer, Whitney Allen, Briana Rainey, and Ashley M. Jackson. _____ Among other performances, the Dance Team provide halftime entertainment during the school's home football and basketball games.

THREE CELTICS ON ALL DISTRICT BASEBALL TEAM
Senior Aaron Mitchell was named to the Class 3 District 15 All District Baseball Team along with juniors Cullen Rowland and Sam Janet. _____ Mitchell was an infielder and occasionally pitched for the Archbishop O'Hara High School Celtics. ______ Rowland and Janet were the pitcher and catcher combination for O'Hara. _____ A total of sixteen players were selected for All District honors. _____ O'Hara ended up in second place, losing an extra inning game to Pembroke Hill in the District Championship.

SIX CELTICS ON ALL WCC BASEBALL TEAM
Two Archbishop O'Hara High School baseball players were named to the All West Central Conference First Team and four were selected for the Second Team. _____ Pitcher Cullen Rowland along with infielder Aaron Mitchell were First Team players from the 15-9 Celtic squad that came in second in the District. _____ Making the Second Team All Conference were shortstop Aaron Stubblefield, catcher Sam Janet, outfielder Jake Slocum, and secondbaseman Travis Peter.

Two Track Athletes From O'Hara Qualify For State
Cydnee Reese won the discus event in Sectionals Class 3 Section 4 at Kearney High School on May 22. Skyler Young placed second in the shot put, so both Celtics will compete next weekend for the State Titles. _____ Reese had a distance of 125'10" edging out her closest opponent who had 125'7". _____ Young's heave was 38'3.25" which was shy of the 40'4" winning thrust. _____ As a result of the two athletes' feats, O'Hara as a team tied Notre Dame de Sion for 16th place among the 27 schools that scored team points.

O'HARA 1010-2011 STUDENT COUNCIL
Taylor Hays won the Archbishop O'Hara High School election for the student body President in an election on May 21. _____ Emily Tyler was the Runner-Up. _____The Executive Council will consist of Vice-President Katie Beachner, Secretary/Treasurer Erin Lynch, and Parliamentarian Alex Ralph. _____ The junior Class Officers and Reprentatives will consist of President Katie Hayes, Vice-President Kellie Bachkora, Secretary/Treasurer Kierra Jackson, and Representatives Molly Dowd and Andi Davis.

O'Hara Baseball Team is Second in District
Archbishop O'Hara High School won the Runner-Up plaque for the baseball Class 3 District 15 when they lost the Championship game in an extra inning 5-4 to Pembroke Hill on May 21. _____ O'Hara ended their season 13-9-2 and Pembroke Hill continues with a record of 11-9. _____Earlier in the day in the semifinal games, the Celtics had an easy 14-4 win over Lincoln Prep and Pembroke Hill eased past Harrisonville 7-0.

O'Hara Soccer Team is Second in District
Archbishop O'Hara High School won the Runner-Up plaque for the soccer Class 2 District 6 when they lost the Championship game 4-0 to Note Dame de Sion on May 20. ____ The loss brought O'Hara's record to 13-11 while Sion went to 16-3-2. _____ Oak Grove fell to the O'Hara soccer team 3-0 in the first round when Derrianna White was credited with yet another shutout for the season. _____ Katie Brage, Lindsay Beachner, and Andi Davis provided the necessary goals. _____ In the semi-final game, the Celtics outscored Pembroke Hill 6-4 with Taylor Eason and Sydney White each getting a pair of goals. _____ Mary Pat Brage and Kaylea Lancaster each had a goal to account for the margin of victory.
FOUR FROM O'HARA QUALIFY AT DISTRICT TRACK MEET
In the Class 3 District 7 Track meet, four athletes from Archbishop O'Hara High School were in the top four to qualify for continued competition in State. _____ Sklyer Young with a 35'10" shot put took second place as did Cydnee Reese with a 114,4" in the discus. _____ Qualifying with fourth places in their events were Jasper Greeson with a time of 51.43 in the 400 meter dash and Andy Meyer with a time of 4.51.43 in the 1600 meter race. _____ As a team, the O'Hara girls were 12th among 16 schools and the boys were 13th among 15 schools. Warrensburg was the the girls District Champs and Ruskin took the boys Championship. _____ Although not qualifying for further competition, the following girls scored team points for O'Hara: Dakota Waggerman 7th in pole vault and 8th in long jump, Claire Becker 8th in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter races, Rachel Gudde tied for 7th in the high jump, and taking 6th in the 4x100 meter relay team were Cydnee Reese, Marli Bartlett, Amiecea Johnson, and Nakeia Lewis. _____ Tanner Hull had a pole vault of 11 feet for 6th place and Brett Coatney was 7th in the 400 meter dash.
Commemorative Plaque For Tyler Fratzke
Between the time of the Archbishop O'Hara High Scool Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises, a commemorative plaque for Tyler Fratzke was added to the school chapel. _____ Tyler died in an automobile accident on September 25 and would have graduated with the 2010 class on May 16. _____ Engraved on the plaque are the words of Abraham Lincoln, "It is not the years in your life, but the life in your years." _____ The plaque is the tenth one permanently mounted in the school's chapel. _____ Three of the plaques are in memory of teachers who died while employed at the school: Anna Hennon, Marvin Tucker, and Brother Austin Makowski. _____ Three plaques remember the tragic accident that took the lives of Gina Metoyer, Dianne Navratil, and Angela Lamb in 1984. _____ The remaining three are on behalf of Amy Furey '75, Michael McLaury '82, and Brian Teeman '83.

O'HARA 2010 COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
On Friday May 14 and on Sunday May 16, the Archbishop O'Hara High School conducted the Baccalaureate Mass at Saint John Francis Regis Church and Graduation Ceremonies at the Pavilion at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit. _____ Jenna Mahlberg gave the Salutatorian talk at the Baccalaureate and Molly Gutteridge gave the Valedictorian speech at the Graduation. _____ Ninety-seven seniors participated in the ceremonies. _____ At the Baccalaureate, Brandon Wesche and Nicole Karwczyk were presented the Saint La Salle Award, Connor Duncan was announced the recipient of the Tyler Jones Scholarship, and recognition was given to the outstanding senior projects. The projects by Anthony High, Brandon Wesche, Molly Gutteridge, Logan Naudet, and Nick Cobb were among the top. _____ The Graduation Ceremonies began with a prayer offered by Jim Monteil who is this year's Lasallian Teacher of the Year. _____ Nicole Krawczyk sang the National Anthem a cappella. ____ The O'Hara Concert Choir under the direction of Gerald Snow sang Total Praise. _____ Among the Special Awards announced at this ceremony were the two O'Hara Elks Teens of the Year Anthony High and Lyndsey Lopez determined by the Grandview Lodge, and the Celtic Scholars who attained above a 4.00 GPA: Molly Gutteridge, Jenna Mahlberg, Brandon Wesche, Kara Feuerborn, and Katherin Huber. _____ Katherine Huber was also the O'Hara Scholar-Athlete from O'Hara. _____A special remembrance was made for Tyler Fratzke, a member of the class who died in an automobile accident during the year.

Three From O'Hara Faculty & Staff Honored
Although the ceremony scheduled for May 13th was cancelled, the Kansas City-Saint Joseph Diocese gave special recognition and sincere gratitude to three Archbishop O'Hara faculty & Staff members for twenty-five years of service to the Catholic Schools of the Diocese. ______ Larry Habel who served at both Saint Pius X High School and at O'Hara, along with Mike Martin and Brother Richard Geimer, both of whom served at O'Hara, completed their twenty-five years in the Spring of 2010.
SAINT PIUS IS SHUTOUT BY CELTICS IN SOCCER
Needing just one goal, goalkeeper Derrianna White was credited with another shutout as the Achbishop O'Hara High School soccer team defeated the Warriors 1-0 on a wet day on May 12. _____ Taylor Eason got the goal on a beautiful cross by Sydney White.

Jim Monteil Receives Lasallian Teacher of the Year Award
Jim Monteil, head of the Archbishop O'Hara High School mathematics department, has been name the O'Hara Lasallian Teacher of the Year. _____ Reflecting the educational and religious characteristics (the spirit of faith and of zeal) of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Patron of all teachers, Jim walks in the footsteps of his father Paul Monteil who not only taught history at O'Hara before retiring, but is an affiliated member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. ______ As head of the mathematics department, Jim has math teams represent O'Hara in math contests and sponsors an annual grade school math contest held at O'Hara every Spring. _____ Jim has been an assistant coach for the O'Hara football team working as the offensive co-ordinator. _____ His schoolwide prayers to start the schoolday have been very well received as sincere and meaningful.
MARK SCANLON NEW O'HARA BASKETBALL COACH
Mark Scanlon, a member of Our Lady of the Presentation parish in Lee's Summit, has been named the head basketball coach at Archbishop O'Hara High School for the 2010-2011 season. _____ He replaces Todd Magwire who is moving on to coach at Bishop Ward High School. _____ Graduating from Northwestern Missouri State University, Scanlon holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education from Ottawa University. _____ He is a member of the Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame, received the Eddie Ryan Award and the Lambert Award, and has been named Metro Coach of the Year. _____ At Northeast High School, he coached Daylen Robinson who won the 2010 Direnna Award.
Mike Berney Named to the WCC Academic Team
Mike Berney, captain of the West Central Conference Championship Knowledge Bowl Team from Archbishop O'Hara High School, was named to the WCC All-Academic Team on May 12th. Along with other scholars on the Team, Berney has an ACT score above 32. He was the only senior on the winning O'Hara team this year, and last year was the only non-senior on the Team that was Runner-up. He also was a member of the Third Place team in the State District competition in April.
CAYWOOD SELECTED TO FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE GOLF
Jack Caywood was selected to the All-West Central Conference First Team in golf on May 11. _____ He has also qualified to compete as an individual in the Missouri State Meet. _____ In the West Central Conference, the O'Hara team placed fourth with 364 strokes from its four man team. _____ The top three teams were Warrensburg 325, Smith-Cotton 344, and Saint Pius 347. _____ Clinton was just two strokes below O'Hara at 366 and Center finished the day at 450.
Baseball: Celtics & Cardinals Split One-Run Games in Double Header
In two close baseball games played on May 11, O'Hara and Clinton split one-run decisions, the Celtics winning 2-1 after dropping a 7-6 extra inning game. _____ _____ Cullen Rowland pitched a four hit game in the O'Hara win, giving up a run in the last inning. _____ The Celtics got their first run in the first inning when Rowland singled, went to second on an error and to third on a passed ball, and scored on Jake Slocum's fielder's choice. _____ Aaron Mitchell scored the Celtics' second run in the 6th inning, hitting a double, stealing third, and coming across the place on Aaron Stubblefield's RBI single. _____ _____ In the first game of the double-header, O'Hara took a one run lead in the intial inning on a double by Aaron Stubblefield followed by an RBI single by Jake Slocum who was O'Hara's starting pitcher. _____ Slocum ran into trouble in the fourth inning giving up three walks and a single but yielding only one run before being relieved by Logan Halil who threw a strikeout with the bases loaded. _____ The Celtics retook the lead in their half of the inning on two walks and an RBI single by Cullen Rowland. _____ The Cardinals scored three runs off Halil in the next inning with the help of four hits and two errors. _____ The Celtics took the lead back in their half of the inning with three runs, tying the game on a 2 RBI double by Sam Janet and a go-ahead RBI single by Addison Schmitt. _____ Giving O'Hara a two run lead in the 6th inning, Cullen Rowland doubled and came home on an attempted pick-off play in which the ball went into center field. _____ Clinton tied up the contest with three singles in the 7th inning. _____ With Aaron Mitchell on the mound, the Cardinals coaxed a walk, and the runner was sacrificed to second. A scratch single put runners on the corners with one out. Twice a double steal was attempted, failing to advance runners the first time, but realizing the winning run the second time.

ANOTHER O'HARA SHUTOUT IN SOCCER
Derrianna White registered another shutout for the O'Hara soccer team 10-0 against the Center Yellowjackets on May 6. _____ As usual, Taylor Eason led the scoring attack putting in three goals, and freshman Sydney White added a pair. _____ Five individual goals were scored by Lindsay Beachner, Lindsey Hanaway, Katie Brage, Mary Pat Brage, and Andi Davis.
Three Celtics Win Firsts in WCC Track Event
In the track and field competition for the West Central Conference held at Center High School, three O'Hara athletes won first places. _____ Jasper Greeson with a time of 50.89 seconds won the 400 meter run, Skyler Young took the shot put with a 34'4" heave, and Cydnee Reese's 118'7" discus throw was the best distance in that event. _____Teamwise, the O'Hara boys were sixth and the girls were third. Warrensburg won top honors in both boys and girls competition.

O'HARA SEEDED #1 IN DISTRICT BASEBALL
In class 3 District 15, the O'Hara Celtics baseball team is seeded #1 among eight teams. _____ Pembroke Hill, Harrisonville, and Lincoln Prep have the next three seedings and the remaining schools in this District are East, Center, Ruskin, and Renaissance Academy. _____ On Saturday, May 15, the Celtics face Renaissance Academy at 10:00 AM while later in the day Lincoln Prep meets Ruskin, Pembroke Hill takes on East, and Center plays Harrisonville. _____ On Monday, May 17, the teams play elimination rounds with the District Championship scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 at 5 PM.

Celtics Lose a Close 5-4 Tennis Encounter with Saint Pius
In singles matches, the O'Hara varsity tennis team benefitted with wins by John Tyler, Joe Locasio, and Matt Falke in the 5-4 loss to Saint Pius. _____ Locasio was also a winner in doubles teaming up with Matt Shelton but it wasn't quite enough to carry the day. _____ Four O'Hara players scored wins in the JV competion; they were Curtis McNeill, Julian Gidley, Brandon Dennis, and Pat Berney.
CELTICS SPLIT A DOUBLE HEADER
After dropping a 5-7 decision to Warrensburg, the O'Hara baseball team won 10-3 on May 4th. _____ Aaron Mitchell, Sam Janet, and Jake Slocum each colledted three hits, but the big blast was a home run by Travis Peter. _____ With games being made up that were cancelled by rain and wet fields earlier in the season, the Celtics are playing daily and double headers putting a premium on pitchers. _____ In the O'Hara victory, Jake Slocum and Logan Halil combined pitching duties.
Jack Caywood State Qualifier in Golf
Jack Caywood shot an 81 in the Class 3 District 7 Golf Tournament to qualify as an individual for State competition even though the Archbishop O'Hara High School team tied for third in the District. _____ The Team from Pembroke Hill had a score of 313 to win the District title. _____ Harrisonville was the runner-up team with a score of 350 while both O'Hara and Pleasant Hill had 353. _____There were eleven schools competing in the District Tournament held at Adams Pointe Golf Course. _____ O'Hara outscored Clinton, Oak Grove, Grain Valley, Odessa, Nevada, Ruskin, and Center.

NEW GIRLS POLE VAULT SCHOOL RECORD
Dakota Waggerman broke the girls school pole vault record at O'Hara by 12 inches at the Joe Falcon Relays with a 8'6" jump. ______At the meet, Jasper Greeson set a personal best in the 300 meter run. _____ Event champions included Sydnee Reese and Skyler Young. _____ Scoring team points with personal bests were Andy Meyer, Tanner Hull, Brett Coatney, and Claire Becker.
