BOYS BASKETBALL O'HARA 67 LAWSON 57
The Archbishop O'Hara High School boys basketball team won a game with the Lawson Cardinals 67-57 on January 28. _____ Daniel Hurtt had 22 points, Kyle Baker had 18, and Isaac Uche scored 8 for O'Hara. _____ After jumping off to a 14-8 first quarter, the Celtics fell behind 28-23 at the half. ______ The Celtics regained the lead by three points to end the third quarter before pulling ahead to win. ______ _______ On January 30, the Celtics lost a cliffhanger to the Center Yellowjackets 66-70. ______ The teams were tied at 33-33 at the half and O'Hara led 53-50 going into the final quarter. _____ After the Celtics held a 66-64 advantage with just over a minute remaining in the game, they gave up two baskets and two free throws to end the contest.______ O'Hara's main offense was Daniel Hurtt's 25 points and Kyle Baker's 17, but Josh Madden also added 10 and Nate Burrell contributed 9.

O'Hara Wrestlers Win in Four-Team Meet
With Jake Fortin and Maverick Griffin going undefeated during the day, the Archbishop O'Hara wrestlers won the Championship at the Grandview Duels on Janaury 27. ______ A win over Liberty North sealed the Championship.______ Also included in the competition were teams from Lee's Summit and Truman. _____

Alexa Williams & Cydnee Reese were named to the all tournament team at the Grain Valley Girls Basketball Tournament completed on January 27. _____ The team won the consolation side of the bracket by defeating Odessa!

Long Ball Serves O'Hara Well in Win With Smithville
It was a two-point victory for the Archbihop O'Hara High School boys basketball team 56-54 as they eased past the Smithville Warriors on January 26. _____ In spite of only scoring only one free throw in the entire game,the Celtics relied on nine three-point baskets, seven by Kyle Baker for the win. _____ Maquille Gatlin and Nate Burrell had the other two treys while Austin Frerich had three for Smithville. _____ Kyle Baker was the game's top scorer with 23 points and he was the only Celtic to reach double figures. _____ Smithville was led by Derek Howe 20, Austin Frerich 14, and Cory Marmet 11. _____ A big second quarter wherein the Celtics outscored the Warriors 17-6 made the game a catch-up chore for the home team, but O'Hara held on to cut the rally short.

THREE-POINTERS PROVIDE O'HARA WITH A WIN
Kyle Baker scored six times with three-point shots for the Archbishop O'Hara High School basketbll team with the Lee's Summit Tigers to win 66-57 on January 20. _____ Baker was the Celtics' top scorer with 30 points. ____ Daniel Hurtt added 22 points for O'Hara while Elijiah King had 16 for Lee's Summit. _____ The Celtics jumped to a seven point advantage in the initial quarter and increased their lead in the third period. _____ John Burton and Tanner Hull each contributed a three pointer in the game.

Celtic Wrestlers Overwhelm Pembroke Hill
On January 17, the Archbishop O'Hara High School Celtic wrestlers defeated Pembroke Hill 69-9 and lost to Adrian on tie breaking criteria after reaching a 42-42 score. ______ Eric Gossman, Ethan Ambrose, Jake Fortin, Stephen Conway, and Peyton Franklin were all winners in the Pembroke Hill competition. ______ The tied dual meet was determined by first takedowns. ______ As a result, O'Hara's dual meet record up to this date is 7-3.

O'HARA WRESTLERS WIN BIG ON SENIOR NIGHT
On January 12th, the O'Hara Celtic wrestling team ran their season record to 6-2 for the year with an impressive 54-16 win over the Butler Bears. _____ Captain Miles Womack started the dual meet by going up a weight class and winning with a pin. _____ Nick Schofield won on forfeit as did Stephen Conway. _____ Senior Josh Snow battled for the full six minutes but came up a little short. ______ Ben Kirse won a 3-2 match against a tough opponent. ______Freshman Nihkil Fenani had a pin in the third period increasing the Celtic lead. _____ Ian Levy fought well but for the second night in a row ran up against the opponents' best wrestler and fell short. _____ Tanner Warner received a forfeit and Tyler Adams lost in a well wrestled match. _____ Senior Jake Fortin came up big in his last home match with a first period fall. He has shown great determination after suffering a major knee reconstruction last year. _____ Freshman Maverick Griffin won a hard fought 4-2 decision over a solid opponent. _____ Freshman Spencer Mathews continued a great freshman season by pinning his opponent. _____ The dual meet ended with junior Peyton Franklin, also wrestling up a weight class and earning another pin for the Celtics. ______ Coach Kevin Stanley had the following comment, "It was a great night for the team and especially the seniors. I enjoyed our get together at the end and hope there are many more nights like this to come. I would like to thank all the seniors and their families for the hard work and support they have given the team." _____ _____ _____ _____On Saturday the wrestlers had another good day at a tournament at Center. _____ Nine Celtic wrestlers signed up for the event and came home with five medals: one gold, two silvers and two bronze. _____ Ethan Ambrose battled to a 2-3 record but lost a 3-1 match. _____ Jake Fortin took second place for the day running his record to 13-3. _____ Maverick Griffin also placed second with a 4-1 record on the day. Both Jake and Maverick lost to a State Finalist in overtime and by 1 point. _____ Peyton Franklin increased his record to 21-8 with a dominant performance winning his bracket and he did not get extended to the second period all day finishing with a 5-0 record._____ Miles Womack earned a bronze medal with a 4-1 showing. _____ Robert Martin in his first tournament placed third and had just one slip up that cost him the gold. _____ Ben Kirse, Stephen Conway and Josh Snow also competed in this event.
