Football Win O'Hara 31 Oak Grove 24

In a close seesaw football game on August 29, the Archbishop O'Hara Celtics rallied to defeat the Oak Grove Panthers 31-24.

Zach Drake gave the Celtics the first lead on a 22 yard field goal. The scoring came after O'Hara marched for 63 yards in eleven plays.

Two Panther TD's put the home team up by 17-3. Jake Moore scored on a 4 yard run an Jake Harrenstein reached the end zone on a line plunge.

The Celtics fought back to tie 17-17. Zach Drake scored one of the Celtics' touchdowns on a short 4 yard pass. Michael Briggs ran for short two yard TD and Austin Evans succeeded on a two-point conversion run.

Later the score reached 24-24 before Austin Evans scored the final touchdown on a 19 yard run. The final drive was set up on a fumble recovery by Austin Evans on the Panther 36 yard line.

The big play of the evening was a 91 yard kickoff return by Austin Evans in the fourth quarter that tied up the game prior to O'Hara's deciding TD.

Briggs finished the game 12 of 20 for 120 yards with a touchdown and an interception and he was the team’s leading rusher with 68 yards on eight carries. Drake had four catches for the Celtics for a total of 41 yards.

O'Hara to open soccer season in Belton

The Archbishop O'Hara High School boys soccer team is opening its 2014 season at Southwick Stadium in Belton with games against Oak Grove ( Aug 26), Belton (Aug 27), and Grandview (Aug 28).

Football Win O'Hara 49 Richmond 20

On August 22, the Archbishop O'Hara High School Celtic football team opened their 2014 season with an impressive 49-20 win against a tough Richmond Spartan team.  It was a non-conference away game.

Although Richmond took an early 7-0 lead on a 3 yard run by Quinton Maxwell, O'Hara scored three times before the half while allowing one TD on a 43 yard pass from Maxwell to Dylan Seely.

Quarterback Michael Briggs scored twice on short yardage runs and Austin Evans had an 80 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  At halftime the score was 21-14.

Michael Briggs plunged for a third quarter TD and Brock Hughes ran in a score from ten yards out to up the score to 35-14 going into the final quarter.

Gerald Harker and Austin Evans each scored in the fourth quarter on runs of 45 yards and 40 yards.

 The Spartans scored a 5 yard touchdown by Sam Owen near the end of the game but the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Zach Drake kicked five extra points for O'Hara and Michael Briggs ran for a two-point conversion.
