O'Hara Is Runner-Up in Basketball Tournament

In the first round of the Lee's Summit Community Christian Basketball Tournament on November 26, Archbishop O'Hara High School won a 72-58 contest with Van Horn.  Kyle Baker and Isaac Uche were in double figures for the victorious Celtics.  Two days later, they beat East Christian Academy 77-71 to move into the Tournament Championship game with Summit Christian.  However, the team lost the championship game by five points to the host team.

CELTIC ALUMNUS TO PLAY FOR UMKC

T. J. White who was a standout athlete for Archbishop O'Hara High School in both football and basketball will be on the UMKC basketball squad. ______ White had played at Moberly Area Community College for head coach Pat Smith and as a freshman in 2011-2012, he averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game. ______ The Greyhounds finished 17-3 in the final 20 games with White in the lineup. _____ Through six games this season he led the squad to a 6-0 mark, averaging 9.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. _____ He was called a defensive stopper and a winner by his coaches at MACC. _____ In one game already this season, he posted 15 points, 10 steals, and 8 rebounds. _____He had played for head coach Todd Magwire at Archbishop O'Hara High School and led the Celtics to an 18-6 record averaging 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. _____ He earned first-team All-District and All-Conference honors that season as well. _____ As a junior he helped the team  to a 21-5 overall record.

Celtics Top Pirates 51-45 in Girls Basketball Opener

O’HARA LADY CELTICS RALLY FOR WIN WITH PLATTE COUNTY


With a strong fourth quarter, the Archbishop O’Hara High School girls basketball team overcame a five point deficit to defeat Platte County 51-45 on November 20 to open their 2012-2013 season.

Trailing 38-33 going into the final quarter and led by Amanda Hull, Maddie Champion, and Cydnee Reese, the Celtics pulled ahead with a shot by Alexa Williams 46-45 and the Pirates failed to score another point in the game. They were held two baskets and three free throws in the final frame.

O’Hara led throughout the first quarter until two free throws by Jessie Hoover followed by a basket by Teryn Scott gave the visitors a two point advantage.

The Celtics continued to trail in the second quarter until Cyndee Reese and Alexa Williams combined for four points and O’Hara held on up to halftime leading 24-20.

However Platte County dominated the third quarter outscoring O’Hara 18-9 before the fourth quarter rally.

Top scorer for the Celtic squad was Alexa Williams with 15 points; two of her baskets were three-pointers.. Cyndee Reese and Maddie Champion were also in double figures.

Celtics Top Raiders 64-45 in Boys Basketball Opener

   The Archbishop O'Hara High School boys basketball team opened their 1912-1913 season with a win over Pembroke Hill by a score of 64-45 on November 19th.
   The Celtics led throughout the game and outpointed the Raiders in every quarter, leading at halftime 30-22.
   The scoring for O'Hara was welll spread out with John Burton (13), Isaac Uche (12), Desmond McDaniel (11), C.L. Naudet (10), and Kyle Baker (9) providing a balanced attack.
   Pembroke Hill was held to just three points in the third quarter when O'Hara pulled way ahead.
   Prior to the varsity contest, the JV Celtics won 62-34 and the freshman team edged out a close 30-28 victory.
   For the JV team, DaQuan Barnes, Alex Wagner, and Zach Drake were in double figures.  During the second quarter, O'Hara had four consecutive 3-pointers, three from Alex Wagner and one from DaQuan Barnes.

O'HARA SCHOLARS WIN MATH CONTEST

The Archbishop O’Hara High School Math Team won the Lee’s Summit Math Competition on Saturday, November 11th at Lee’s Summit North High School. The Celtics competed in Division II. The following students earned points for the team by placing in the top 5 on various tests :


Gyu Park: Top Overall Sophomore, taking 1st Place in 10th Grade Geometry, 10th Grade Word Problems, 10th Grade Graphing and Functions , and the Medley Team. He took 2nd Place in 10th Grade Algebra.

Nick Naudet was the Top Overall Freshman.  He had 1st Place in 9th Grade Algebra and 9th Grade Algebraic Simplification.  He was on the 1st Place 9th Grade Team and had 2nd Place in 9th Grade Word Problems.

Alex Higinbotham was the 2nd Overall Junior taking 1st Place Place in 11th Grade Algebra and 11th Grade Trigonometry, and placing 3rd in Graphing and Functions and was on the 5th Place 11th Grade Team.

Ethan Ambrose was the 2nd Overall Senior with a 1st Place in12th Grade Word Problems. He took  2nd Place in 12th Grade Trigonometry and took 4th Place in 12th Advanced Topics.  He was on the 2nd Place 12th Grade Team

C J Naudet was the 2nd Place Overall Freshman.   He was 1st in 9th Grade Word Problems 2nd in 9th Grade Algebra, and 4th in 9th Grade Algebraic Simplification.  He made the 1st Place 9th Grade Team.

Jordan Wilcoxson was the 2nd Overall Sophomore with 2nd Place in 10th Grade Geometry, 4th Place in both 10th Grade Algebra and in 10th Grade Word Problems, and he was 5th in 10th Grade Graphing & Functions.  He made the 3rd Place 10th Grade Team.

Grace Pepple the 3rd Overall Freshman scored 2nd in 9th Grade Algebraic Simplificationand 3rd in 9th Grade Algebra.  She was on the 1st Place 9th Grade Team.


Bethany Miscannon who was also on the1st Place 9th Grade Team was 3rd in 9th Grade Algebraic Simplification, 4th in 9th Grade Algebra, and 5th in 9th Grade Word Problems.
Tricia Wankum was on the 2nd Place 12th Grade Team with 3rd Place in 12th Grade Word Problems and 5th Place 12th Grade Trigonometry.

Eero Johnson on the 2nd Place 12th Grade Team had 3rd Place in12th grade Trigonometry.

Katie Tyler on the 3rd Place 10th Grade Team had a 3rd Place in 10th Grade Geometry.

Nick McCracken on the 3rd Place 10th Grade Team was 4th in 10th Grade Geometry.

Rounding out the others earning points were Jeremy Ambrose and Brett Kies taking 1st Place on the Medley Team, and Eriana Blankinship and Chase Koob on the 5th Place 11th Grade Team.

CELTIC SELECTED FOR MO/KAN GAME



Madison Clark from Archbishop O'Hara High School was selected to represent Missouri in the MO/KAN All Star volleyball game on November 11th at Avila University.  She had made the Second Team All State, First Team All Regional, First Team All District, and Second Team All West Central Conference.  The starting time for the MO/KAN game is 5:30 PM.

Jennifer Gustin is All-State in Cross Country

Finishing in 18th place, Jennifer Gustin from Archbishop O'Hara High School made All-State honors in cross country on Saturday, November 3rd.  Gustin's time for the 5K run was 21:01.75, and the top runner posted an 18:40.97 time.  The Class 2 competition was held at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.  The top twenty-five runners received medals.

ALL WCC O'HARA FOOTBALL PLAYERS

Cardell Miller was named to the 2012 Football All West Central Conference First Team as a wide receiver.  He was named on the Second Team as a defensive back.  Also on the Second Team were running back Brock Hughes, slot back Ronnie Sailer, punter Michael Briggs, and linebacker Tony Darling.  Two Celtics took double positions on the Second Team: Sam Morrison as a kick returner and a defensive back, and Eero Johnson as an offensive guard and a defensive tackle.

Academic All State Honors for Celtics

Football players from Archbishop O'Hara High School who have attained Academic All-State Honors through the Missouri Football Coaches Association were named on November 2nd.  They are Tony Darling, Eeron Johnson, Ben Kirse, and Reilly Sweeney.
